Exhaustion after juicing; why?
Question:

I've just started juicing. I don't stick to any particular recipes, if I do veggie juice, I'll use carrots and apple as a base then chuck in different sorts of veg, as for fruit juice, I use anything.
I'm doing this becuase of colitis, I never digest fruit and veg when I eat it.
I was amazed at the instant energy it gave me, it seemed as if this was what my body had been crying out for. However, I've noticed, that 4 hours after drinking it, I seem to plummet in energy and feel suddenly very, very hungry. I'll actually be shaking and feeling weak, desperate to eat.
Any ideas what's going on here?
Tiger.

Answers:

Hi Tiger,
I'm no expert, but a couple of things spring to mind:
- Are you eating other stuff besides the juice?
- Fruit juices and sweet vegetables (like carrots) have a lot of sugar in them, so that might account for the instant energy followed by exhaustion. Perhaps you could try avoiding the fruit juices and having more non-sweet veggies in your juice and see if the same thing happens.
- The sudden drop in energy you're talking about reminded me of diabetes, so it might be worth looking into that too.
