Question:
I was wondering if anyone has used Essential Oils Direct as a supplier, www.essentialoilsdirect.co.uk. They are a wholesaler with comparable prices to Amphora, but only have a £30 minimum order value.
I'd really appreciate your thoughts on their oils & service. :)
Don't know.
Best advice is to check with the Aromatherapy Trade Council. They monitor the sale of all essential oils in this country and you will be fine if you stick to their approved suppliers:

Hi AngelFish
There is a company near Leeds called Hermitage oils which is quite good and reasonably priced, sorry I cannot remember the website but I am sure it will come up in a search engine if you put the name of the company in.
Hiya
I did ask this on HP before we changed over to the new forum, nobody seemed to have used them but I got lots of other useful sites to try. I did place an ordre it came within 48hours, they were really helpful and friendly and a lot cheaper than my usual supplier, I have compared a couple of the oils and they see of a good quality, the rose otto seems slightly different from the usual one at essential oils but that doesnt necessarily mean worse!

Thanks, as I'm not the only one who hasn't heard of them, I'll need to look at them very closely before/if I order anything. I've emailed them some questions, I'll let you know what they say.
Great advice again! ;)
I use Tree-Harvest.............they supply colleges so obviously their oils are well tested and are of first-rate quality. Website is www.tree-harvest.com.
They are really lovely people and the oils are extremely well-priced (special prices for therapists). They also stock a huge amount of really unusual carrier oils, boxes, incense, soaps and creams/lotions, bee balms etc. Their telephone number is 01452 849 123. Please feel free to mention my name.

I can't comment on any of the companies mentioned and wouldn't want to be unfair to them - but you do get what you pay for. Good quality essential oils are NOT cheap.
Personally I think you can't go wrong if you stick with the ATC approved suppliers. The ATC work very hard to keep high standards in aromatherapy and their members pay to join. They wouldn't do that if they didn't think it worthwhile.
The suppliers mentioned may very well be excellent and I really am not knocking them or any therapist who uses them - but consistency of some sort is important and if you get good results with an oil then you would stick with the same supplier wouldn't you? I use Absolute Aromas and Fragrant Earth - they are expensive - but then I don't have to worry about the oils at all - I know that they are fantastic and they won't let me down. Not only that but you use less of the oil. One drop of Rose Otto is more than enough in a full body massage and I only use two to three drops of any of the others unless it is Peppermint or something to numb muscle pain. I can use a lot of that - in fact I use it neat - because I don't have to even think about the quality of the oil and any side effects.
This is from the ATC website.
* The Importance of Purity
High quality essential oils at a cheap price are simply not possible. As with most things in life, when buying essential oils you get what you pay for. To achieve optimum therapeutic results in aromatherapy and influence health, essential oils need to be of the highest quality – pure, unadulterated and natural - and not altered in any way since leaving the still. Poor quality products simply do not work and they may lead to skin irritations and side effects as is often the case with synthetic drugs. The whole oil contains many chemical components, some of which are present in very small quantities that cannot be identified and are known as trace elements. It is thought that these act as "quenchers," preventing possible side effects. So with this in mind you should always endeavour to purchase your essential oils from an established, reputable supplier who has been in business for many years and who is a member of a recognised trade association.
Yasmin - the link you gave tells me I can't have access.[>:]

I agree with your comments about good quality oils.........I have used their oils for a couple of years now and find them wonderful. They also sell some very unusual therapeautic herbs on a Fairtrade basis wherever possible.
If you can't access the website feel free to give them a ring for a catalogue, they are really helpful.
