Baby and burning essential oils
Question:

Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum and also just starting an aromatherapy qualification. A friend of mine just asked me if he could burn essential oils (lavender) in his newly born (1month) baby's room.
So my question is, can he use a burner and if yes what essential oils can he use to help her sleep and calm her? And in what quantity?
Thank you very much for your help.

Hi .....lavender is a wonderfully relaxing oil esp for alittle one,you actually only need a couple of drops in a burner to permeate the air. The only thing i would worry about is leaving a candle unnattended and would rather a bowl of boiling water with the eo`s in(away from other little hands)is better(esp if it is late at night with the possibility of the parent fal;ling asleep!(

Hi titi
You could advise your friend to invest in an electrical burner (approx £25) and this you can leave on all night without the worry of a candle being left unattended in the room.
Did your friend say why he wanted to burn essential oils in the baby's room? as I believe you shouldn't use them on a baby that young unless there is a specific reason for doing so i.e. 1-2 drops of Eucalytus Radiata if the baby has a cold etc.
You can use Lavender but make sure it is Lavendula Angustifolia (high altitude if poss) as other lavenders are a stimulant not sedative.

Essence, I believe my friend wants to burn EO in the baby's room in order to calm her down. The mother had to stop breastfeeding her and they are having some problems to find an appropriate milk. COnsequently the baby is bloated and has problems getting rid of her gases... and seems to have problems falling asleep too... Thank you for your advice, it is very much appreciated: Anything that can make this beautiful baby feel better is very welcome.

Hi titi
Sounds like the little one has colic. Her mum might want to join up with a baby massage class. I think she may find this quite effective.

Hi and welcome. I would be reluctant to burn oils in such a small baby's room too but if so there are also raditor attachments that you could use.
I suggest a visit to a cranial osteopath. I wish I had done it when my twins were little and suffered the same. It really helps.
