Good massage practitioners in W Yorks??
Question:

Hi!
Have moved to West Yorkshire and am in desperate need of a strong stress-relief massage! I used to go every 6 weeks to a fantastic therapist where I used to live and I just cant find anyone near here. I have been to 2 practitioners here - but both were too weak a massage - just like having someone rub in suntan cream.
I'm starting to get really bad headaches because my back, shoulders and base of scalp are knotting up.
Does anyone out there know of or even IS a good deep tissue massage practitioner? HELP!!!

Hi Shellbell,
If you look for a therapeutic, sports, or deep tissue massage person, or ask a holistic massage person if they can give a hard massage, you should get there. You can also look in www.igpp.co.uk
Another tip is to make it clear what your needs are. Someone came to see me recently on recommendation, and I was asked to give him Reiki as well as the massage, all in half an hour. He asked for everything except his feet and tummy to be massaged, so I was only able to do the rub in suntan oil kind of massage, which is what I thought he wanted. I kept asking him if I was doing it right and he kept saying yes then afterwards complained to the person who recommended him that all I did was rub oil gently into him! So make sure you make it known what you want and give the therapist enough time in which to do it.
I hope you find the right therapist for you soon :)

I agree. We get some people come in and they want to know 'what kind of massage' we do. I don't mind and understand.
Ring up the therapists in your area and ask them. Tell them that you want a 'remedial or sports massage'. This should scare off those who aren't able to give you a decent treatment.
As for doing so much in half an hour. I would always tell them 'No.' You are within your rights to do so. Reiki takes at least half an hour anyway so how on earth can they expect a good massage also? I find it takes half an hour to really get to grips with really tense muscular problems and they always need to come back at least twice if the problem is really bad, so I would never let them think they could get all that in half an hour.;)

This comment isn't meant to offend those not trained in remedial or sports (I am not trained in them either). Simply meant as a way of weeding out any therapist who would stroke you!
