Beauty advice for eyes needed
Question:

Hi
I wondered if anyone could help me. Over the last month the skin on my eyes have been getting worse and I look awful.
In the mornings when I wake up my eye lids are red and very puffy, yesterday they were tingly and scratchy. Underneath the eye is very dry and the skin is flaky and sometimes above the eye on the eye lids its very dry. It affects both eyes but is worse on my left eye.
I have oily skin but my skin has got really dry and I am using rescue remedy cream on it and this has soothed the dryness on the eyes but I am wondering if its because its 'too heavy' on the eye skin which is making it puffy!.
I dont always take my eye make up off but I dont wear that much anyway!
does anyone know what i can do I dont want to go to a shop as I think they will just try to sell me something!
If you can suggest something I would be so grateful but please note that all products I buy is vegan!
My boyfriend thinks that there is nothing wrong and he cant notice anything - but thats men for you! (sorry to any man I have insulted!)
Much appreciated
PS I look really old with my horrible eyes!

Hi Susan
If you wake up with red and puffy eyes, it may be that you need something from the chemist. Maybe ask your pharmacist to look at them for you first.
You say you don't always take of your eye makeup. I know we all do it from time to time but it is really important to take it off if you can. I tend to use Johnson's Baby Lotion with Aloe Vera, it takes waterproof mascara off as well as normal eye makeup and you don't have to wipe hard around the eye area. Always use an eye cream as well as putting on moisturiser, night and morning. You can also try an eye firming gel which is like a quick fix anytime during the day if your eyes are feeling red and itchy (can happen if you are glued to a computer for best part of the day). Virgin Vie do a good one and so do Natural Elements - they also do a lovely natural eye cream. www.naturalelements.co.uk
Hope this all helps.

Hi Susan,
Lush do a lovely eyecream called Enchanted eye cream, which is made with organic ingredients - I am not sure if it is a vegan product, but many of their products are! www.lush.com

Hi Susan,
I work as a make up and beauty consultant, so I hope this advice will help.
Although we are all guilty of going to bed in our make up, doing this is a cause of infection especialy to the eye area. No matter how drunk or tired you may be, from now on for the comfort of your eyes remove your make up before going to bed. You can get away with only removing it from your eyes but you MUST remove your eye make up!
I'm also thinking that if you are concerened enough to ask for advice on this site that you really should go and see your doctor as to me it does sound like and eye infection.
I also recomend that now you should throw away ALL of your eye make up as this will now be carrying the infection, if thats what it is and as soon as it clears up you'll get it again from your make up when you use it if you don't bin it. Replace all your eye make up after your eyes clear up, this way you wont re-infect your new make up.
Another cause of red puffy eyes strangely enough is caused by using creams on the eyes and applying it wrongly (You may already know this, if so it's good advice to other readers). NEVER apply face creams to the eye area as these are too heavy for use on the eyes ALWAYS use a proper eye cream/gel(s) and only apply it to the socket rim of the eye (the orbital bone) not across the lid as applying it to the lid is the cause of red puffy eyes when you wake. To start with it does feel as though you haven't used enough but you skin draws and absorbed what it needs if there is too much again you'll get red puffy eyes.
But Susan for me please go see your doctor because if it is an infection you can get it cleared up properly.
All the best and I hope this helps
Charlie

Hi
thanks I will go to the doctors. I have to admit I have been using my face cream on my eyes. I am a bit confused on where I should put my eye gel. do I put it on my eyelid (ie when I close my eyes) or underneath my lower lashes?
I have also binned my eyemake up allready and have stopped putting on any eye make up at all as I dont want to make the problem worse!
Thanks

Susan,
I'm glad to here that you've taken my advice let me know what your doctor says.
As for your eye gel there are two ways- 1, general use apply as you would other eye creams around the orbital bone (start on your eye brow place your finger to just meet the hairs from below or under your eye in the area that goes dark and apply in a circle around the eye). 2, eye mask if you have a good quality eye gel (that means nothing too cheap)you can apply it to the entire eye area quite generousely but not too close to edges of your lids top and bottom that is, leave on for 10-15 min then clean away. this is best done once a week when your eyes feel most in need of refreshing.
I hope this helps and I'll happily answer any other questions you may have.

You could have also suffered an allergic reaction to a product such as your mascara? It may have gone off how long did you keep it for? Sometimes you can suddenly become allergic to a product if an ingredient has changed unbeknown to you. I had a similar experience with a mascara and had used the same make for months previously with no probs. I purchased a new one and after waring it my eys became very irritated and itchey and sore, they kept watering too. Needless to say I threw away the mascara and changed the make and they were fine again. I found it was the product I was reacting to. I hope you got to the bottom of what was wrong with your eyes did you consult a doctor?
