Crystal Questions
Question:

Hi Everyone,
I just joined this site and I am so happy to have found it - it is wonderful!
There are at least 45 books written on the subject of crystals and minerals in a therapeutic / holistic perspective. However, after a while you may come to a conclusion that none of the currently available books on the subjects of crystals and stones actually give an explanation about 'why a crystal or mineral has a healing quality'? For example - everyone knows that Amethyst is profound for stress, tension, anxiety and insomnia? but does anyone know 'why'? How is it that nobody has actually written a book that gives an explanation??
Don't get me wrong here - I certainly do side with the positive - and fully believe that minerals and stones have therapeutic qualities; I've certainly seen the evidence. However the question still stands.
How come it's Amethyst that has the above qualities and not Black Tourmaline instead?
I am curious specifically about the energetic qualities that minerals have, but I find again and again that no - one has apparently tackled the concept of why they have them. Has anyone else got any solutions to my question?
Another question that I have is in respect of 'how they actually affect or interact with the human energetic system'?
I am fully aware of chakras and the chakra theories - in that people believe that you can put a crystal on a chakra and this brings balance back to that area? all very well - but exactly how does this happen? I think it must have something to do with what is going on in the chakras themselves? but everywhere I look for answers to this - I draw blank.
My husband has read a lot on chakras;
'The Chakras' by Leadbeater, 'Wheels Of Life' by A. Judith, 'A Journey through the Chakras' by J. Gardner, 'Chakras, Rays & Radionics' By Tansley, etc etc He's been through these and more in his time but he does say that none of these explain exactly what happens in the chakra?
Does anyone have any thoughts on these points?? I would be delighted to hear your opinions?
Curiously...
Nat
Ps. Sorry if these questions are very deep - it's just the way my mind works!

Hi Nat
I'm afraid I don't know the answer however I understand that crystals work on a vibrationary level directing/emitting energy and one theory may be that the chemical make-up of a stone affects the way the energy is emitted i.e. the pulse of the energy so perhaps as the crystal is brought towards the body it affects the body's emmission of energy, slowing it down/speeding it up etc. A bit like a tuning fork on a guitar string perhaps?
So the trace elements in quartz that form amethyst may have an effect to slow the energy from the crystal which in turn slows the body's energy rate thus bringing a relief to stress etc i.e. by calming the energy it is calming the body?
Don't know if this is true (or helpful) but that's my theory how it works and why some have one effect and others have a different effect.
It is good to question everything as only by questioning can we discover whether something is true (for us where we are now at this moment in time).
Good luck in your discoveries

Answers:

There are 3 qualities that give special power to crystals/stones
o colour (wavelength measured in angström units)
o chemical compositon
o the form of a crystal
Crystals in relation to us: by electro-magnetic exchange

Hi Nat, Welcome to HP and a great question you've asked.
Crystals form naturally in the earth, whenever conditions allow. When molten minerals and superheated gases for the earth's mantle work their way outwards towards the surface through cracks and fissures, they start to cool. The molecules that make up these substances stop moving about randomly and start to group together into stable patterns. By the time the mineral has cooled and hardened, the molecules have set themselves into a completely even geometrical shape, the most orderly and harmonious possible arrangement, called a lattice. The lattice is the basis of the crystals structure. Depending on the conditions, or pressure and temperature, at which the crystal was formed and the nature of the liquids and gases from which it was born, it may stay in this form for millions of years, or it may grow and change shape, or even metamorphose into different types of crystal if the right conditions arise. But whatever happens, it will always keep its perfectly stable, orderly atomic structure. Even mineral pieces, known as amphorous, that appear on the outside to be without regular shape, for example malachite, have completely even crystalline structure on the inside. In fact, so even and consistent is the structure of crystals that they can be said to be the most stable and unified matter in the whole universa.
But crystals are more than mere atomic structures, however, fascinating these structures may be. They also possess some quite remarkable and amazing properties that stretch way beyond the realm of simple matter.
It is well known, even among sceptics and doubters of crystal healing, that crystals have a "charge". The energy flow from a crystal is in keeping with its very regular and even atomic structure. Nothing can equal the absolute regularity and reliability of the electrical pulse they produce. People are ofen surprised to discover that our modern age of techno-sophistication, which they assume to be purely the product of of human cleverness, could not exist without the use of crystals. Since the discovery of scientists that crystals emit a totally stable energy vibration, they have been incorporated as chips into just about every powered item we use, including computers, televisions and watches. Crystals act as perfect, flawless energy transformers, amplifiers and transmitters.
Crystals are inseperable from what we are. It is very true to say that all forms of life owe their evolution to the mineral kingdoms, which is the raw material of all physical bodies. We are all interconnected in this way; this means that crystals have exactly the same significance and the same resonant relationship with us as they have with animals. There is no difference!
When we speak of the resonance that exists between crystals and living bodies such as our own and those of the animals, we are not just talking about the shared way our bodies are made from crystalline forms. More fundamentally, we are talking about energy, the bioenergy, or natural electricity, that unites us all. Crystal electromagnetic energy, which we have taken from nature and harnessed for our own ends, is exactly the same thing: the natural energy source that emanates from the planet that bore as and governs everything.
We are ELECTRICAL beings. Every molecule of the human and animal body vibrates at its own electromagnetic, bioenergetic frequency. We all consist not just of visible fleshly bodies but also of invisible energy fields. These fields which permeate us and surround the material body like an invisible outer shell, are often referred to as the aura, or subtle body. Chakra is an ancient Sanskrit word meaning 'wheel', and it refers to the energy centres of the body. It is widely believed that energy enters and flows through the body by means of these centres, which are distributed evenly throughout the body but cannot be perceived by normal senses. When a chakra is in balance, energy flows freely. When it is imbalanced or closed, energy c
