Question:
There has been a lot of talk recently about the proposed acceditation - Lionman has been doing sterling work trying to round us up into action.
I was just reading the thread on amazing reiki and thought we know a lot of individuals who have been helped with reiki. Some of us do a before and after assessment with clients. We do have evidence about Reiki here. Is there anyway we can bring this information. May be this could go towards showing the powers that be that we need regulation that in fact we do work ethically and better still get amazing results.
Hi Somerset Angel,
The unfortunate thing is that all these wonderful stories are anecdotal and cannot be repeated under 'scientific' conditions and tested under the 'accepted' double-blind regimen.
This has always been the stumbling block to acceptance by the scientific fraternity.
The fact that healing, and most complementary therapies, have been practised for many thousands of years to very good effect has been totally ignored by the scientific minds - who ARE tho new age, as they have anloy been around for between 50 to 60 years in their current forms.
We healers, both Reiki and others, must keep up our work and not be discouraged or overcome by the intrusions likely to be imposed in the name of regulation and science.
We DO have our codes of conduct, ethics and practice, we DO have our own insurances, we DO help others to have improved qualities of life without adverse side effects, we ARE cost effective (unlike the modern overpriced drugs) and we really DO help our clients.
Keep healing,
Dear Paul
I know about evidence base I have to face it in the NHS where I work P/T I know some people in the NHS are hoping that anecdotal evidence can be used.
We can have witness statements and before and after treatement assessment from people when we use treatments.
I sometimes think we sit here feeling helpless - There is a great deal of interest in Reiki in the NHS I often get ask when staff find out I do reiki. I think our profile needs to be improved and the benifits it can bring.
So we need to be careful what claims are made about reiki especially when trying to open doors within the NHS. I think there is an opening in minds but it is slow. It is certainly a clash of ideals west meets east ancient versa modern.
We need to take people with us not alliante them. I have learnt a lot in the Last 4 years in the NHS getting medical staff to change the way they view and treat smokers. This is with evidence base but it has been about changing attitude and accepting another approach to help people.
