Question:
Hey im new on here. Started Beauty Therapy NVQ 2 at college and doing a project on facials at the moment. I was wondering on whether any one could tell me any contra-actions for a full facial treatment, as i cant really find any in my text book or notes! wud be greatly appreciated as i have to have it finished by the end of the week!! Thanks![:o]
i think the contra's are
contact lenses ( which they can remove)
bruising
broken capillaires
toothache or swelling
I cant think of any others at the mo

Hi Littlemisslol,
I am doing Level II Itec diploma in beauty spec and have just finished the facial part.
The contra indications are as follows:
As there are many treatments that make up a facial ie mask therapy, heat treatment, massage etc you need to think broadly then may have to go to each treatment and think about each one:
Ie contra indications to facial is
(adding to what billie has said)
Client has the flu/fever
Client has any eye infections like conjuctivities (sp)
Client has a scar that is less then 6 months old on the face
Client has any open cuts on face
Client has a really bad sunburn
Client has a contagious infection i.e impetigo
If there are any lumps and bumps - you can avoid the area ie local contraindication.
When you are doing individual treatments a client can be contraindicated to a treatment and not to a facial ie eye treatments. You could do the patch test and a client might be allergic to the tint but you can still do a facial but have to miss out the eye treatment.
Same goes to heat treatments (steaming) ie a client could have really sensitive skin. Steaming induces erthema.
Sorry for the spelling mistakes!!!
i was wondering if anyone could tell me what would be the best way of finding out contra-actions from people before doing a treatment please?
thanks
Prismatico

CONTRA-ACTIONS TO A FACIAL IS A REACTION TO TREATMENT SIGNS TO LOOK FOR ARE;
WATERY EYES
SKIN REACTION
EXCESSIVE PERSPIRATION
EXCESSIVE ERYTHEMATIC
HOPE THIS HELPS
A GOOD CONSOLTATION WITH YOUR CLIENT TO FIND OUT IF SHE HAS HAD ANY PROBLEMS BEFORE ALSO YOU SHOULD BE TOLD THESE THESE BY YOUR TUTOR SOME PEOPLE PATCH TEST BUT IT DEPENDS ON THE TREATMENT YOU ARE GIVING
HOPE THIS HELPS
TRACY
There seems to be a few confusing answers on here - Just to clarify, a contra-action is an adverse reaction following a treatment (such as skin rash, erythema, swelling, itching etc).
A contra-indication is a condition present before you do a treatment that would prevent the treatment from going ahead. This is what you find out during the consultation - for example if they had a coldsore or were allergic to the facial products.
A good consultation is important to ensure that no contra-actions occur.
Hi ,
Contra action means a reason to do a treatment and contra indication a reason not to.
Hope this helps
