Question:
hi all i am jane an aromatherapist in birmingham.I have been looking into eft and notice alot of you are trained in nlp and hypnotherapy.I would like to use eft with my clients but am not sure if i have no knowledge of the above shouldi attend a couirse or are the distance learning ones ok........do they take into account no prior knowledge?
Hi Jane
I came to EFT from a background in reflexology and have never studied Hypnotherapy or NLP. It was something I was concerned about as well, but although both of those do complement EFT well they aren't compulsary. As a therapist you are bound to already have good rapport building skills, and know how to communicate to clients - that's the most important thing.
To learn EFT I started with the Gary Craig CD's and then attended a weekend advanced workshop as I believe that some face to face training is important alongside the distance learning.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me.

I agree. NLP and Hypnotherapy are great but not necessary to be able to learn and practice with EFT.
I would suggest, as Sarah does above, to have a look at Gary Craigs website where you can download the manual free, and there are DVDs of his whole course.
If you need to know who can help you to learn from a course, the association for meridian therapists at has a list of EFTers you can browse through.
Good luck

Hi Jane,
Most people that train with me for the AAMT course are massage therapists not mind therapists, so you have nothing to worry about there. As long as you stick to what you know, you will be fine. Even hypnotherapists can't treat certain types of mental illness. If you want to know what you can treat in more detail, please feel free to PM me.
Can I also give the link to the AAMT? www.meridiantherapy.org
There is lots of material on there, and it's free for everyone to share :)
If you are a qualified hypnotherapist or meridian therapist you can normally gain insurance to practice EFT without a course.
For others, its best, to ensure you are confident and to give your clients peace of mind, to take a practitioners level course. The videos are good, but some insurance companies will not accept this as adequate training for their purposes (give yours a buzz and they should be able to advise you).
Personally I am about to undertake the practitioners course with Dez and this feels right for me, I know the routine and have used it on myself and a couple of friends, but I don't feel fully prepared to do this, there are skills which I feel are crucial which the videos from Garys site did not offer.. things such as body language and how to word the questions and such.. for me, face to face training feels right, but you need to trust your own intuition.
