EFT & Phobia protocols
Question:

Hi folks,
Wondered if I could pick your brains about a case study I am about to start.
I am training in EFT with Passion for Health and have been contacted by a woman who is concerned about her 11 year old daughter. The girl is insulin dependent diabetic and has a phobia of needles, which obviously makes things hard as she needs to inject 3x daily. She was diagnosed with diabetes 5 years agom, but the problems started 2.5 years ago when her father became seriously ill.
During my EFT practitioners course we were told how to set up a Phobia Protocol, starting with tapping for how the person felt even approaching the subject, before mapping out the triggers etc. My understanding is that you would work on these factors before testing the person with a dissocitated trigger (e.g. "Imagine that there is a needle in another house")
Any experienced bods got any suggestions for this and for working with a child? I am going to see them next week to have a chat and meet them in their own surroundings.
Many thanks in anticipation,
Pete

Hi Pete,
You can start with a doll or teddy having a needle called something else in an imaginary dolls' world. Having said that, I think the clue lies with the father's illness too, and maybe the child is connecting the needles to becoming very ill, so I would find out if the father's illness is terminal, for instance, then if not, do something about people going to hospital to get better or something like that. I think the girl will come up with that in the playing in the first part, so just be prepared for it.
Let us know how you got on!

Hi Suzanne,
thanks for the suggestions. I thought there might be a link to the fathers illness too. The mother told me that he used to do all the work with the daughter to show her how to use the needles etc and there was no problem. However, he contracted a virus which has left him as a quadraplegic at the age of 42 and the girl has been phobic since.
Will let you know how it goes.
Pete
