Question:
I haven't been on here for a long time due to been very busy at work.
I qualified 3 years ago in VTCT massage/aromatherapy - due to enormouse lack of confidence (some of you will remember me from before) I did not get very far with my massage. I still have all my towels, bed, books etc which are just sat there collecting dust. At the back of my mind I feel as though I have wasted myself. Any ideas how I can get back into it or do a refresher course.
I live in West Yorkshire.
Many thanks
Hi rosie
I was like you once I had done my reflexology - I left it for over a year and then a friend asked me to do it for her and her mum. So I took my notes and carried out the treatment. I was amazed at how much I could remember and how much I couldn't. I went through the books to see which points I could not remember from the sequence list. It took time (over a year) but I have got there finally.
How abt you practising on your friends or family to get back into it? If your college does the massage still, why not ask the teacher if you can come and observe for a class or two or ask him/her to show you again?
I am thinking of doing that for my reflexology just to get my mind back into it. i always think colleges should hold quick refresher courses but I can't find anyone who does it.
I hope that this helps
Hi Rose
As Rakhee has suggest it is a good idea that you get one or two friends and have a go, you will find it all comes back and then you just need to go through your routine a few times and you will then get your confidence to move on and try charging someone, once you have a couple of paying regulars under your belt you will wonder what all the fuss was about :-)
Hi rose,
You are not alone ! I haven't treated anyone in about a year and a half and have been having the same feelings as you. But I bit the bullet two nights ago and borrowed a friends back to do a massage and realised how much I loved doing it and how much I missed it.
You just need to find a friend sympathetic to your cause, believe me no-one will turn down the chance for a free session even if you just start with the back and move slowly from there. The hands remember more than you realise. I'm now desperate for other people to practice on, anyone out there live in the cheshire area ?
Good luck & I hope you find the courage to start out again, pm me if you want to talk about it more !

Hello Rose
I would like to do swaps with you although I am still in training. I live in Leeds and study at the Dove Centre in Hebden Bridge. I am doing an IFPA course. Our tutor has suggested that we form a study group or find a study buddy for support. This would be a good idea for you too I guess.

Hi Hazel
I'm studying Aroma and Advanced Sports Therapy this year and have done Swedish Body and Indian Head last year. I'm based in Halifax so not far from Hebden Bridge.

Hi Rose,
Good on you for getting back into it. I'm sure most of the colleges do refresher courses or the tutors know of somewhere. I know a couple here Down South do.
Good luck![sm=grouphug.gif]

Hi Rose,
Instead of doing a refresher, why not do therapeutic or sports massage and get an extra qualification?
BTW I read my notes before every massage for the first six months, so don't worry, you'll soon pick it up again :)
Thanks for all your lovely replies and encouragement. I have just heard today that someoned would like me to do a massage at their house (a paying client too). She wants me to ring her. She is a lady who is in her late 50's who was on an introduction to holistic therapies course with me and we got on very well. Also a friend of one of my family. She owns a guest house so this could be a good opportunity for me to leave some of my cards. All sounds good doesn't it but to be honest I am scared stiff in case she has any medical problems and contraindications etc. I am going to get back into it I think by just using base oils and introduce my aromatherapy later on. I think my consultation form is far too long though has anyone got any ideas for a shorter one but with all the important questions etc.
PS Just bought a fantastic massage chair from Costo for £167.00 which I thought was really reasonable. It is great for doing should neck and head massage. My sister is trying to get her company to let me go in and do the people that work there I just need to name a set price (and find my confidence.
Best wishes to you all
