Question:
New to forum, finding it really helpful to talk to other therapists with questions or just to chat.
I have been qualified in IHM for over 2 years but I still find that on the odd occasion it is difficult to tell if a client has enjoyed the treatment. I would say that I apply a comfortable pressure although some clients would like it firmer. I have also had clients that found previous IHM by another therapist far to uncomfortable. Can anyone help?.
many thanks.
Hi Truly Beautiful,
I am a reflexologist and what you are experiencing happens in most therapies. Some clients just aren't very vocal about the treatment and you may wonder if they have enjoyed it or not. I have a client at the moment who is a really nice woman, she just doesn't say much about the treatments. I always asked her at the end if she enjoyed the experience and she just answers with a 'yes, thank you' and it sometimes makes me wonder if she is just saying it to be polite. A good way to tell is if they re-book or not. If they dobook another treatment from you it usually means that they have enjoyed it. The client i mentioned earlier has just booked a course of six treatments with me so i assume that she enjoys them and just doesn't really communicate this very well.
Why don't you try asking the client after the treatment how it felt for them, and if there is any way to could adapt your technique/pressure to suit them for the next time, or you could ask them to fill out a client satisfaction questionnaire at the end of the session to get the answers you need in an indirect way. If the client is not happy with an aspect of the treatment, ask themwhat they would like to change and make a note of thison their records. This shows that you want them to enjoy the treatments and will most likely have them booking more treatments from you in the future.
Hope this helps
