Question:
Hi,
I am interested in studying Reiki but am getting increasingly confused about how or where?
Can anyone advise me re finding a Reiki master? I have seen a few advertising but the cost (and, indeed, the info that they give) seems to vary greatly. I'm in the Midlands.
Any advice will be gratefully received.
Love & light.

hi lyndac
have a good look around, search here on HP for local teacher, call them, have a session from them, see how you feel after that and do not make a choice on the spot, go home refect on your meeting and then make the right choice for you.

Hi Dez,
Many thanks for that. I have found a few local (and one not so local!) masters and will follow your advice!
Thanks again.

Word of mouth is also a very good way of finding a Reiki Master.
Also gut instinct is good. My first Reiki teachers had lots of faults but they set me on a path that has offered loads of interesting teachers and life experiences. I think I picked them because their leaflet was so badly done that I thought they must be dedicated to Reiki :D They allowed me the opportunity to explore lots of avenues in my life, most of which I have decided against, but I'm glad to have had them.
Look at what the teachers offer for the money they charge and the time they take up. Also do you want to learn New Age style Reiki, Japanese style Reiki? Do you want to do specific meditations that are based on Japanese pratices, or do you simply want to learn a hands on healing practice? If they say they do Japanese Reiki do they have a connection with Hiroshi Do or Hayakuten Inamoto? Do they do New Age stuff like angel work or crystals? Are you interested in that? What kind of post-course support do they offer? Do you want a chance for amonthly or weekly practice?
Read something like the Reiki Sourcebook to learn exactly what you want to get from your Reiki courses and then see.
Hi Lyndac,
As the others have mentioned, it's best to shop around. Speak to them on the phone and then if any resonate with you, ask if you can have a treatment off them and talk to them about learning Reiki and see what they offer (length of course, style of teaching and beliefs, manuals, after course contact etc.) and how much it's going to cost. In the Midlands the average would be about £110 for Reiki I, £130 for Reiki II and the Reiki Master/Teacher will vary depending on the master teaching and whether they do that as a single course or as Reiki Master and Reiki Master/Teacher.
I'm not sure which part of the Midlands you're from, but I can point you in the direction of a couple of Masters if it helps.
Melanie Telling - based in Stourbridge -
(Melanie did my Reiki I and Reiki II and works from a view of Reiki as a therapy and then you can put your own beliefs into it as you see fit. She also practices Jikiden Reiki and was taught by Tadao Yamaguchi at Frank Ajarva Petters house in Germany and I think offers level I training in that too)
Pat Howfield - based near Stafford -
(Pat did my Reiki Master/Teacher (not that there's anything wrong with Melanie ;)just that Pat offered it to me and I took her up on it). She works a lot with earth healing, celtic beliefs, animal cards etc. although she doesn't actually teach that as part of the Reiki, but that's just an indication of the type of person she is)
I think our own Dez Sellars (who's posted above) also offers Reiki courses.... let me find the link on his site.... . (I haven't learnt Reiki from Dez, but he did teach me EFT and FREEWAY-CER and has a.... how shall I put this.... erm... let me think about it.... unique sense of humour. However he certainly does get results and is a damn fine teacher)
I can also think of a couple of other Staffordshire based Reiki Masters if you'd like details on those too.
Hope that helps and I'm sure you'll find the right person for you.
Love and Reiki Hugs
