Atkins Wow
Question:

Hey everyone
Have any of you guys seen the Atkins DVD? its available at Walmart and I have to tell you that its amazing. I nearly gave up dieting because othing ever seemed to work, however my friends told me about this DVD so I thought I would pick up a copy. I have to say that I wasn`t dissapointing, I couldn`t believe that dieting could be so much fun. If any of you have tried Atkins before please let me know as I would be very interested in your opinions.
thanks guys and good luck.

I know lots of people who rate this diet, but you can't do it for long... and after a while you'll be back to square one. Go buy You Are What You Eat, change your diet (don't diet!) and lifestyle, to maintain a fitter, healthier living. There is no miracle "cure" and it certainly doesn't come from pouring loads of gloopy fat down your throat...

Hi TaylorWillix,
I'd be inclined to agree with Darren. These faddy diets are fine for a little while, but diet must be part of a complete lifestyle change. I have found that simply by eating sensibly and doing lots of walking, I am much fitter than I ever was. Calorie counting and excluding a major food group is dangerous, unless a person happens to be huge, in which case medical help should be sought.
I have never tried the Atkins Diet, but I should imagine that when people on it begin to re-introduce carbohydrates to their diet, they are back at square one. I think this is doomed to failure because of that.
I'm not a nuitritionist, just an observer. If you feel that the Atkins Diet is right for you, then go with it.
Love,
Patsy.

President Clinton was on this diet before his major bypass heart surgery. Gary Null said Dr. Atkins told him that he couldn't change the diet because it was selling so well.

Yes get You are What you Eat - it's excellent - the secret to weight loss according to Gillian is to eat lots of the right food and food COMBINE - you don't eat proteins and carbs at the same meal for example.
Carbs are essential for your body to function properly - better to have steady weight loss with a change of life style than speedy weight loss with a diet that can cause health problems. In my opinion anyway!

Hi there Taylor
I tried the Atkins diet, it really does work and I found it very easy to do. However, once you reintroduce, what I would call a normal amount of carbohydrates you put the weight on again. Some elements of the Atkins have stayed with me - decaf tea and coffee and drinking lots of water, so thats one good thing to come out of it! :)

Come on guys! We used to be hunter-gatherers! Any diet that doesn't encourage you to eat vegetables is not sensible!
You are what you eat is excellent, and it's a diet for life. However, it can be expressed in one simple line: 'If it doesn't grow, don't eat it!'

I tried it and found it really hard to do!!
I don't eat alot of meat, don't like eggs, and love vegetables - this does not equal good Atkins!! I felt quite ill after 3 days, and gave up after 5 - and didnt lose much weight which all went straight back on.
I agree, You are what you eat is good, but it also takes some real effort and serious new style shopping!! I am a avid seed eater now though!

I also heard the brain functions on sugar from carbs and it would seem Atkins is limiting that.

In the US Judge Lubitz has ruled that a Delray Beach businessman’s suit against Atkins Nutritionals, Inc., has legal merit and ordered the case to proceed towards trial. More info
I didn't think advertising was allowed on our page. The 1st post in this thread is nothing but. Theres nothing ethical about walmart either.

What is it about carbs that puts the fear of god into everybody. These people that create these diets just feed of peoples confusion of food and what we should and shouldn't eat and they get rich whilst most people spend their entire lifes yo-yo dieting and being miserable.
Our bodies need carbs - they are our energy source and without energy our metabolisms slow down and get sluggish and then we don't shift the fat. Granted we need to eat the right type of carbs i.e unrefined but we do need them. A diet made up of mostly protein as in Atkins is bad for our health. All that happens is that our body eats its own stores of glucose and water (in muscle) on order to get energy so we lose weight but its muscle not fat. Excess protein cannot be stored by the body and has to be gotten rid of hence one of the side effects of this diet is halitosis (bad breath). Once we stop the diet the weight goes back on but not as muscle which is how it was lost but as fat.
The only way to lose weight is to eat a healthy diet (plenty of carbs, some protein, lots of fruit and veg) and exercise. Exercise is a great way to speed up our metabolisms and burn fat faster.
Sorry to get heavy but as a Personal Fitness Trainer and trainer naturopathist I spend large portions of my time trying to re-educate peoples pre-conceived ideas of 'diets'.
At the end of the day 'We are what we eat'

from what i hear...when they did a biopsy on mr atkins...they discovered his aterties were cloged. makes some think twice about that diet.

well, yes you could discount his diet on the basis that he was obese (IIRC) but just because he developed the diet didn't mean he wanted to lose weight... probably just wanted to make lots of money. Instead, I think his diet is daft on the basis of what you have to eat!

darren...i don't know much about the diet except a few items one can or can not have.
i personally am always skeptic to those that widely market themselves and not follow as an example...and i mean this most with books written ect...i can only assume that they really don't know what they're talking about nor believe in it!
on another note...i didn't know he didn't follow his own creation...i was told he did.
on personal beliefs to leave out...i feel the atkins diet is a scam and overall doesn't benefit the health (although i've seen a couple people lose weight in beginning but only to lead to poor health and more weight gain)...and i see it all advertisement...just as perhaps as the thread started.
