Food we don't like
Question:

I have been wondering lately about why we dislike certain foods. Is it simply that we don't like the taste, or could it be that our body does not like them, and we somehow instinctively know this, from childhood when our main tastes in foods are laid down. I ask because the other day I ate some baked herring, which I have never liked. However I told myself not to be silly, all fish is good for you and I ate it, it wasn't too bad.
However I felt ill all the next day, and my husband was fine....which set me wondering, if we don't like the taste of certain foods, could it be that in reality our particular bodies are not suited to them, they are fine for others but not for us? What do other people think...are fussy eaters just fussy, or are they just intolerant to more foods than the rest of us?
Love to all

I think a certain amount is physical - some things suit some people not others - if you look at iridology there are certain foodstuffs suited to different eye types - a broad thing for the colour of eye.. I also believe there's a strong connection between foods and the emotions and that there are some foods we hate cause of emotional connections which may be unknown - why I can't stand raw tomatoes or cheese I will probably never know but they make me feel really manky just thinking about eating them. I think it's about personal experience..
Also look at kids who are fussy eaters - Most of them have parents who have transferred their fussy habits to them - if mum doesn't eat eggs nor will I.. or perhaps mealtimes haven't been the nicest of times for some reason.. there is also often a family connection with eating disorders and you'll sometimes find that sisters get it who have parents who have had it.. foods emotional.. the role it plays in our lives and what we'll eat depends on experience.. if you only ate chips and fish fingers you probably wouldn't develop a taste for chilli.. or you're a lot less likely to..

There isn't a lot I don't like but a few foods don't suit me. I took an food intolerance test with Holland & Barret and it was weird that all the stuff that came out against me I kind of knew already. They tested for vitimin deficiency too. For example tuna fish used to give me a creasing pain across the centre of my stomach and the needle went off the scale for Tuna. White wine &Champagne gives me a head ache and I don't particularly like either anyway.
Have you ever read The Eat Right Diet by Dr Peter D'Adamo . Each blood group is split into categories of foods for, neutral and against. For instance I am blood group 'O' the born hunter and meat eater. Wheat and dairy is a bit no no for me and I have to say if I cut them out of my diet I feel so much better. My husband is 'A' natural vegetarian and can eat dairy and he is fine with it. When you go through the list of avoids it is amazing how many you are not keen on anyway. So yes, I think your body does try to tell you.
Just checked the book and says avoid mushrooms - I love mushrooms[&:]

It's all very interesting, anyway. I like the idea of the food intolerance test at Holland and Barrett. Is it very expensive Pathfinder, and do you have to book?
