Massage at Sports Events
Question:

Hi there...
Can I pick your brains?!
I'm thinking of contacting my local running club & offering my services free of charge atevents; cross country/marathons etc etc #1. For me to get hands on massage experience and #2. An opportunity for me to 'get out there' and market/promote myself.
Has anybody done this and do I need to go through the protocol of consultation with each and every runner even though its obviously a warm up/down massage before and/or afteran event and time is of the essence to these athletes/runners?
I'd be interested to know if anyone has done this and how they went about it.
Thanks, BubbleHead x

Personally I ask clients to complete a standard LSSM patient record form (which they can do while they are waiting: usually at races there is a queue!). This will indicate if there are any possible contraindications - which in my experience is fairly rare; most actve runners don't have contraindications.
I have received several massages in Europe for which I have not been asked to complete any type of consultation form (possibly because many of them have been in hotel spas where some of the clients may have difficulty in speaking or writing the therapist's language !). But as a therapist I always prefer clients to have completed a standard patient record form, just in case they have any unusual conditions which might cause problems during or after a massage.
