Question:
I have been reading about natural remedies and herbal cures etc.
I want to recommend sarsaparilla to my dad who suffers with psoriasis. He's tried everything from olive oil to slippery elm. I don't want him to take any prescribed steroids from the doc, and neither does he. He's very interested in natural therapies.
Has anyone ever used sarsaparilla before and was it effective?
Here's the blend of essential oils I would use for psoiasis
2drops Patchouli
2drops Roman Chamomile
2drops Lavender
1drop Melaleuca, 1drop Rosemary, 1 drop Clove
Use this blend 2-4drops twice a day on the affected areas NEAT (but only if using Therapeutic grade oils (should have an ISO number on the label) eg from suppliers such as Young Living) or 6-10drops in a regular skin lotion applied daily or as needed.
Hi Emma,
Has your dad tried Dead Sea Salts? I've not had any experience myself, but have heard good reports from folk using this. I think you have to bath often, in quite a lot of salts, butapparently itworks.

Dietary change can help with Psoriasis, avoid:
[ul][*]Alcohol[*]Gluten which is found in wheat, barley and rye[*]Foods that are high in saturated fats[*]Red meats[*]Dairy products[*]Eggs[*]Cheese[*]Sugar[/ul]
if you are a smoker, then it is best to quit.
Topical applications to the affected areas of:
[ul][*]Aloe vera gel[*]Dead Sea mineral salts or mud[*]Zambesia Botanica[*]Mahonia ointment[*]Gotu kola [/ul]
can all improve Psoriasis.
Good supplements to take are:
[ul][*]Fish oil[*]Milk thistle[*]Artichoke extracts[*]Selenium[/ul]All the best
Sarsparilla is used in homoeopathic form in the treatment of psoriasis for sure - but it's not THE remedy for psoriasis. You need to find the remedy that matches to your dad with his psoriasis - ie, you treat the person & not the disease. There are an awful lot of remedies that spring to mind but it's best to seek a professional homoeopath. I don't treat my family at all (I'm a registered homoeopath) as I'm too close to see what I need to see - I can't be that objective, so I suggest contacting The Society of Homeopaths who can tell you who your local practitioner is. Good luck.
Hi
Just wanted to add Organic Goats Milk Soap for everyday use to the list -

I totally agree, natural remedy is so much more preferred for psoriasis. The most expensive treatment hasn't help me at all.
sometimes psoriasis is a sign that the body is trying to get rid of something through the skin. This could be because:
1. exposure to a toxin is so high that the body can't cope
2. person is allergic to something and body doesn't quite know what to do with it so excretes it via the skin causing mayhm on the way
3. Liver etc. not functioning properly so not able to deal with normal load
When i was working as a therapist, I often found this was down to a reaction to crude oil in some form - mechanics etc. seem to get it.
A health kinesiologist ought to be able to help put this right if that's the case
best wishes
Jane
Hi emma,
I've had psoriasis for 22 years now and along the road have tried a variety of complementary approaches with varying degrees of success. One of them was a spell on sarsparilla and it was some special tablets with other herbs in too from south america. Six months later by bank balance was not so great and my skin was exactly the same as it had been before. I didn't consult anyone about what I was taking so maybe the mix just wasn't right for me but as others have recommended here, it's probably worth seeing a herbalist or someone to try and find out what will suit your dad as it could save him money and time. I hope he (and you) find something to help his skin.
Best of luck,
Lily
Massagengel I am surprised that no one has mentioned essential glyconutrient's, 8 carbohydrates (Glucose, Mannose, galactose, Fucose, N-acetylgalactosamine, N-acetylglucosamine, N-acetylneuraminic acid and Xylose) My husband takes glyco essentials by a company Nature's Sunshine. he hardly has any signs of hispsoriasis now.
Sun exposure and phosphorus (in oatmeal) have also helped him.
kcatdeejay My nephew had very bad psoriasis as a child. The doctors told my sister that there was nothing they could do. She put him on lecithin-that was 28 YEARS AGO !!! He still takes it and has NEVER had another outbreak since that time. She and I just talked about this again yesterday. There just might be something to this natural approach to healing that so many are afraid to try............even for people with cancer, like me !!
