Question:
Hi all
are there any similarities between accupressure and triggerpoint/deep massage.
steve
funnily enough Stephen I was thinking about this yesterday... I took out my study books for Acupressure, and I have come to the conclusion no!
although - I am bound to get a zillion replies telling me why I am wrong.
My assumption is the acupressure works off the meridians - that is what I was taught- and is therefore quite eastern in thought and practice.
Where as Trigger points seem to be related to muscles, origins and insertions etc etc... they seem to be based more on scientific fact. I.e if you work on the origin and insertioni of the sternocleidomastoid is can relieve neck tension... etc..etc (apologies for spelling)
I have had both used on me - to different but sucessful affects.
I am looking at courses on Trigger point therapy and myfascial release techniques... so will keep you updated.
There are some cross-overs i.e. some acupressure points seem to correspond with common sites for triggerpoints. But on the whole I would have to say that the similarity stops there (in my humble opinion).
