cystic fybrosis
Question:

Another question!! I have a young girl of 20, who has CF and thinks that Reflexology would help her. Her Dr has OK'ed this, but unfortunatly she has booked herself a stay in hospital as she has a chest infection. Obviously this is a serious condition and I am worried about any negative side effects Reflexology could have on her. Basically, I would like reassurance that I will be doing her more good than harm!!
Thanks

Hello blue
I have not heard of CF being a contra-indication. As with any condition it's good to find out about it, its symptoms, what medication is prescribed for it and possible side effects, and so on. Then you can think about how you think reflexology could benefit this person eg boost her energy, relax her chest and lungs, aid elimination etc. Good luck!

Hi
This is a difficult one.....due to medication and complications I would start the first treatment avoiding, chest/lung areas and the digestive system to see if she has a healing crisis (the last thing you want to do is make those areas work harder), then introduce one at a time....of course this is just my opinion and how I would treat someone with CF....

Wow, was I surprised to see this question! I'm a mother of a 14 yr old with cystic fibrosis. Just started my ITEC reflexology course last week. I decided to take reflexology because I thought it would benefit my son. If you have any questions about cystic fibrosis I'd be happy to answer them.
My son came out of hospital over four weeks ago. He goes in about every three months for a course of IV antibiotics. The problem with having CF is the thick mucus in the chest giving a warm, moist home for bacteria to grow. They must do physio at least twice a day to help clear the mucus. My son uses a pep mask, but the problem is it is time consuming and boring especially for a teenage boy. He also has CF related diabetes which is treated differently he adjusts his insulin to what he eats and he can eat anything he wants. Cystic fibrosis also affects the digestive system again because of thick secretions. They need to take creon to help digest fats and proteins because the small intestine is unable to secrete the enzymes to digest them.
My son is at his healthest right after a course of IV's. He feels his best after the treatment. I don't know much about reflexology yet so I can't really say anything about what areas to work on. If you have any questions please ask. I'd be very interested in your experience with treating the girl and if she benefits from treatment and how.
