Question:
Hi everyone - my 16 year old daughter is currently in the throes of a mumps infection.
Can anyone suggest any natural remedies to help support her body through this?
All advice will be gratefully received, altho' it's a childhood illness it is very worrying for all of us.
cheers,
Janice
Best wishes for a quick recovery, poor thing. It doesn't feel good I'll tell you that! I had visitors from the midwest area and the docs speculated that is how I got it. I'm sending sympathetic thoughts, love and prayers.
Having just gone through this myself I can offer this. According to the 3 different doctors I saw in person, and the one who was on the phone the Sunday I discovered my swollen owie glands, there is nothing one can really do but go for the relief factor. They said it is a virus.
Strong flavored things or citrus really hurt to eat or I probably would've tried ginger andred pepper teasand/or garlicfor their disinfecting properties. Vitamin C tablets she can swallow up to about 2000 mg would be good.
For merelief involved keeping a heating pad on the offending spot, drinking tons of water (the docs called it "forcing fluids"), sleep, and ibuprophen (don't recall what it's called in the UK) for pain. I know you said natural, but that's what I did. I drank warm things like chamomile tea, ate soup and soft foods. I also gently massaged the area gently from top to bottom, from chin area down toward my chest to clean the lymph gland and encourage healing. It went away completely in about 10 days.
Hugs to your daughter!
I got mumps when I was29 - I had just moved house alone (husband was working abroad). I got no sympathy from the GP, and his only advice was to 'weather the storm' - friends who visited fell about laughing because I had a childhood disorder 20 years too late! Even though I looked like the Godfather, or a bald hamster, iIt wasn't particularly painful, although I did feel dreadful for about 7 days. I too drank pints of coldwater, warm water and honey, ate gallons of soup and mashed banana sandwiches!
I got chicken pox when I was 36, 10 days after my 6 and 3 year old daughters!!
Poor Jabba, lol. Sorry, I am kind of laughing here... I was 24 when I got chicken pox, 40 when I got mononucleosisand, erm, 50 when I got mumps.[:o] Honestly. Will I never grow up? Nope! :D
