Question:
Hi all,
I am on my way to becoming a reiki practioner and was looking at all the factors that are necessary for a good practice.
I have expereince with health and safety and contra indications, Insurance and so on (I have a beauty therapy and make up artist backgroud) But I was a little upset to find that the uk reiki federation does not accept members who have had distant attunements.
Unfortunately I did not have the time ( sick mum and young son) to travel and attend classes so all my attunemments were distant.
Is it really improtant to be a member of a group such as this. Honestly My heart is telling me it shouldnt matter but, if I was a new client and I was trying a new therapy, rightly or wrongly I feel that some sort of governing body would help me feel a little at ease, I would have a little more faith in my practioner/therapist.
What do you all think.

I think you should listen to your heart...if you have insurance for your other therapies and have certificates for each level of Reiki then can you not ask your insurance company to cover you for Reiki as well. My company covers me for all sorts of wonderful things...provided I can give them a copy of my certificates...follow your heart

There is nothing wrong with distant attunements as the very concept of distance in the energy is an anomaly and If like stromdeva has suggested your present insurance company will not insure you then SMG will, unfortunately the so called governing bodies for energy healing cannot seem to make up their minds on what is relevant so please do not worry about it :-)
Although it will more than likely become compulsory in the future to join an organisation with lots of silly irrelevant rules and contraindications to make us comply with big brothers thoughts on how best to control energy workers and stop them being so effective, that will be the time IMO to asses what is on offer and if it does not grieve the spirit and restrict your channelling to much, then join one of the organisations or go underground and stay true to yourself and the energy and keep your journey pure.

I agree with a lot of what Paul has said. You do not need to be a member of any Reiki organisation in order to be able to practise or obtain insurance, and my impression is that the majority of Reiki people in this country are not members of any society or association.
The biggest societies are The Reiki Association (TRA) and the UK Reiki Federation (UKRF) with about 1,000 members each, and there are some smaller societies too that I have very little knowledge of.
I cannot recommend either of these societies, and I am not a member of any society now. In my opinion TRA are 'Phyllis LeiFurumoto' fans, bowing down to her as 'lineage bearer', and you can't get on their practitioner referral scheme if you use unauthorised hand positions. The UKRF seemed to have a lot of promise, and do provide some useful information, but their proposals for a Reiki core curriculum show that they really have lost the plot now.
I would save your money and carry on regardless. Being a member of these societies doesn't really mean anything anyway.

I suppose at the end of the day as long as you have insurance and you practice with only the intention of doing good then I imagine your clients will sense this.
As I said I am on the road to becoming a practioner I am not one yet, although I have all the certifcates and symbols and enough good intention to light up london I feel a little lost and to be honest a bit of a fake.
I have tried self healing and the healing of others and to be honest although at times I felt as though reiki was really flowing through me I just dont feel I have the grasp.
I know it takes time but I feel that having distant attunements I missed out on being shown what and when to do things and if I was doing or connecting properly. I was attuned given a manual and a certificate and although I m pleased with the attunments and grateful I feel as if I have missed a big chunk out of the whole process, a teacher.
Do you think it is worth me going back to the begining and finding myself a course and just starting from scratch?
does having had attunments already have any effect on more being given to me?
I know I have gone on a bit but I am really wanting to change direction and would love to return to the working world as a reiki practioner and feel a little lost at the moment.
Any comments will be appreciated.

Sorry to hear that you are feeling a bit lost at the moment. So you received a distant attunement, and you were just sent a manual and certificate then? Did your teacher set you various exercises or projects to go through, where you followed the instructions given, worked on yourself and others, and then gave feedback to your teacher and asked questions as necessary... and what ongoing support have you received/are you receiving from your distant teacher?
I will e-mail you direct with some suggestions.

Please stop beating yourself up about this...not only do you get bruised further (been there done that!) very recently...I might add[&:] but it's when your not really thinking about it the answers come your way....

I am so ahppy to har from you, I have looked at your website numerous times and have learnt an awful lot from it so thank you for a fantastic gift for reiki novices such as myself.
I must come clean I have had all three attunments Usui Reiki 1, 2 and master and Seichim master.I only have Master certificates I dont have any for the other levels.
I have an ebook manual for all three levels,all the symols and various meditations such as Gassho and prayers such as reji ho, joshin kokyu ho, byosen scanning, tanden chiryo and jacki-kiri joka-ho techniques amongst many others.
I have had no projects or tasks and no further support, although I feel I have all the knowledge I need as I feel the manual is pretty detailed and ofcourse I have my attunments but I am absolutely lost.
I feel I need the presence of a teacher to literally show me otherwise hoe else ill I know what I am doing is right or working.

Many Reiki healers have reported the same feelings as yourself after distant attunement and even people who have trained to Reiki Master level have chosen to re-train with other Reiki Masters.
Reiki is not just about receiving some attunements that switch on the light, the spiritual opening and awakening reaches its fullest potential in the full initiation usually carried out over a minimum of two days for level I and then again for level II. The attunement is only part of the initiation and training.
From the benefits that people have reportedly gained by re-training they are priceless. So I would say that if you feel that you wish to retrain go ahead it is probably Dr Usui prompting you.

Please stop worrying, you are not a fraud and you can obviously sense the energy and all you need is to practice, the more you use it the stronger it gets :-)
I would like to suggest that you try a little exorcise, the next time you are going to use energy healing on someone spend 10 to 15 minutes just sitting with the energy first then get yourself into a comfortable position next to the person you wish to share the energy with and place your hands about 4 inches away from them, it is irrelevant where you place them as long as they are in the persons energy field.
Now all you have to do is activate the energy, you do not need any rituals to do this some people think Reiki on, I usually think energise but please do whatever you feel is right as there is no set formula or we would all be using it.
Now just state your intention to heal them, you can just think this, close your eyes, relax and go with the flow, if you feel to move you hands somewhere then do it, if it feels right to stop in one place then do it and learn to work with the energy, it is really very simple ok :-)
