Do you need to be vegetarian?
Question:

Is itbetter or necessary to be a vegetarian to live a Reiki life?

Answers:

No it's not necessary but some people may say it is better if one eats healthily (although "healthily" doesn'tnecessarilymean vegetarian). I don't honestly think what you eat makes much of a difference, if any, tobeing able to channel Reiki sufficiently.
I can see how (hypothetically speaking) eating healthily (not necessarily vegetarian) could help as the energy wouldn't be wasting it's time on trying to "heal" the unhealthy aspects a bad diet can create.
I am a RM & I am not a vegetarian & I don't seem to have any problems living a full Reiki life. :)

Hello Solas,
in answer to your question...no! I am a carnivore through and through and have been a Reiki healer for nearly 10yrs now and never had any problems.
Reiki flows through whoever it has chosen to work with, it's only humans who put 'restrictions' on it. I once had a student who askeddid they have to wear black for the course????! Where did that myth come from? Just be yourself, Reiki 'finds' the channel well before you start to look for a Reiki Master so if it is happy with the way you are why be told to change your habits?

Hi Solas,
I do think that our Reiki practice sets out certainethics such as respeting all life and not harming anyone/thing, but IMHO vegetarianism doesn't provide the answer to that. You might find this post I made yesterday interesting, seeming as Reiki has buddhist roots:

Hi solasThe energy flows through your energy matrix quite independent of your physical form, there is very little you can do physically which will affect it.At the end of the day you must do what feels right to you, it is your own personal journey after all :-)

Hi Paul,
I have to agree to differ with what you say:
I believe that if we chooseto only ingest healthful, ethical nutriments (whether chemically through food, or physically through our environment in general eg TV, magazines, usic etc) then we are having an impact on our consciousness. I see our consciousness as the tool we use to attune to the healing energy, and therefore even what we eat can have an implication. It's not directly what we eat though, it's the ethics and beliefs behind what we eat, if that makes sense.

Hi AzaliaI do understand what you are saying though I tend not to put any preconceived ideas into my energy work, yes if you really believe that eating meat will stop you channelling then yes it probably will on a conscious level but you will still be able tochannel on an energy level even if you chose to ignore it because of your beliefs:-)

According to Hawayo Takata:

"In the Reiki health treatments, we are vegetarians, and eat all kinds of fruits in season."

However, while vegetarian most of the time, she herself did actually eat meat on occasion (I believe she was particularly fond of braised kidneys?)
More generally, concerning food, Mrs Takata had the following to say:

"Nature provides with plenty, but never to waste. Over-eating is a sin.
Eating in moderation, with a feeling of gratitude, to recognize the Great Spirit who is the creator, who is the All Power to make things grow and blossom and bear fruit.
Come to the table with pleasant thoughts. Never eat when you are worried. ...
With proper food, the patient responds faster to the treatments.

Hi Solas, Any sustenance that we take depends upon the life force of some other thing. Whether that be vegetable or animal, our eating of it takes away its right to life. Therefore, you must decide what you can and cannot destroy for your own survival. But don’t go into the jungle! The animals do not have such inhibitions. =)

Hi Azalia
I have looked at your post re Buddhism and vegetarianism and I agree that eating should be "ethical". I was quite surprised while reading the Dali Lamas "Flight to Freedom" to discover that he was not a vegetarian until he went to India. Makes sense when you think that Tibet is a very high cold country so cannot grow much. I personally still eat meat in moderation so am please with all the posts responding like wise ;) I would not critise anyone for thinking otherwise as I have met Reiki practioners who smoke and I found this contradictory, however I am learning it is not for me to judge....

Answers:

Hi again Solas,
I agree that a big part of our ethics is not to judge other people. While smoking is undoubtedly bad for your healthand anaddictive toxin- which makes it seem very contradictory to Reiki practice- ultimately it's no worse than someone being involved in a toxic relationship and being a Reiki practioner. The latter just seems more acceptable to most people.

You don't have to be a vegetarian or vegan to be a Reiki practitioner but as you become more enlightened and aware you naturally become vegan as you realise that eating meat or animal products prevents your frequency from raising and you come to a point where you cannot justify eating these things to yourself because they feel wrong for your higher path. Not everyone gets this far but those who want to take their spiritual path to greater heights will do. I would say that if people are going to eat meat or animal products they should at least make sure it is organic so the animals undergo less suffering but ultimately we don't need to eat meat to survive. Vegans are generally much healthier and the food they are eating has a higher vibrational frequency that nourishes the body. Our bodies were not built to be able to digest animal protein and too much of it leads to illness and disease not to mention the suffering of the animals.
Everyone has their own path though and you cannot force anyone to be vegan. People come to things at the right time for them.

So, in answer to your question yes!

Hi KashikoiYou have a free choice to decide how you wish to walk yourpath the same as the rest of us, but that is literally down to the personal choiceseach personhas set for theirown journey. Some people do not eat or drink anything as they feel the energy will support them but that is their choice, some people believe they can only become energetically enlightened by doing this or that and again that is their choice, if it works for them that is fine but that does not make it right for everyone.Enlightenment does notequate tobecoming a vegetarian or a vegan or an energy eater, there simple are not any set rules to what a person will do when they chose to start their chosen paths,we are all differentbut all eventually move toward the same spiritual conclusion.Personally speaking I can raise my energy frequency and perform energy healing work at any time I choose, regardless of what I am doing or if I have eatenmeat or a salad or had a drink, there againI don't set any restrictions on my energy healing and I don't have any preconceived ideas that I try and enforce or live by or up to, I just get on with it in a natural intuitive way.

If you have found that to be the case for yourself, then I applaud you for following your own path. I, however, do not believe this is the case for everyone and perhaps should not be stated in such a matter of fact way.
Consider the possibility that your own beliefs (for our beliefs, our consious and unconscious mind are all part of our energy system) effect our energy system in various ways. If you truly believe that eating meat will dampen your energy frequencies then you are likely to cause it to happen. If you eat meat and are happy that this will not effect your energy system then it is likely that it won't. The power of the body's energy system is very strong when it comes to effecting us as an energy being.
Too much of anything causes problems. We are perfectly capable of digesting most foodstuffs. Does a plant's energy not suffer from us eating that too?
I believe (and it is only my belief) that we should just endeavour to avoid eating things that don't digest well and contain those things referred to as "toxins" as our body will only want to dispose of them. It is the toxins that the body has trouble disposing of that is party to illness and requires us to heal it to release those toxins.

Kashikoi,
In actual fact, human beings ARE designed to eat meat, and we have been doing so since time began. The problem is not that meat is dense and therefore lowers the consumers vibrational frequency, but rather that the animal was poorly trated when alive and killed in fear...which would lower the vibrational frequency of meat.
Vortex expresses my sentiment perfectly in less words: (sic)
