Question:
Any idea how to give up crisps? I am very good about what I eat during the day and I don't have a sweet tooth however in the evening I can't stop eating plain crisps and I can see my daughter developing the same bad habit. After giving up cigarettes I now feel "addicted" to salt.
OOh you need Darren Follows the Path. he had a crisp addiction.
DARREN!!!!!
And you could try tapping. and our mind therapies forum.
Good luck

How many bags are you eating?
How about just limiting yourself to one bag a day for now - but that depends on how many bags you're eating.
Also, is there nothing else you could replace the crisps with, something else that you really like that is healthier?

Hi Solas,
If I were you I would stop the person who puts them in your cupboard. if they are not there , you will not be tempted. you only snack on them because they are so readily available.
I did the same with chocolate, didnt buy any just bought fruit, now when peckish in evening I get an apple or banana, I feel a lot healthier...BUT JUST DONT MAKE ME MAD... COS I'M REALLY RATTY.....!!!
How many bags are you eating? = 3 to 5 depending on how much red wine I have [sm=food-smiley-004.gif]I am trying to cut down ....
If I were you I would stop the person who puts them in your cupboard. = That would be me.......can't walk past the crisp aisle which is why I think I'm addicted.... I have tried substituting other healthier snacks however I have to cut out rather than substitute I think.
Darren Follows the Path. he had a crisp addiction.
DARREN!!!!! = how did you do it? Did EFT help if so what do you tap?
Thanks all. [sm=hippy.gif]
hi you really need to break this cycle, the amount of salt, sat fat, trans fat you are consuming is far too high, you are gaining no nutritional value from these.cut out the red wine to stop the munchies, get someone to go shopping with you and if need be stamp on your toe if you go near the crisp aisle, put a photo of yourself looking at your worst on the cupboard door, super glue you lips together, try them all.
I agree softly softly sometimes works but you are taking years off your life, get tough with yourself.
Best of regards for your troubles

Hiya.
I used to eat 8 bags of all sorts of crisps a day. My thinking was that it wasn't affecting my weight/shape at all so it can't be as bad as they say. [&:]
However, I started reading about nutrition and fitness, and it soon became apparent that the food I ate was rubbish. It also helped that I became a fan of that You Are What You Eat and that put me off eating junk food (and playing with other people's poo ). (In fact, I also reduced my meat intake by about 75% at the same time and increased my vegetable and fruit intake dramatically, as part of my healthier lifestyle - I just like to make my life difficult, I guess.)
Personally, I didn't use any therapies to help me - I just cut down to about 3 initially but replaced the 5 remaining bags by snacking on unsalted nuts and seeds (many sorts - pistachios, cashews, etc from the Asian section of Tesco; sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds from Holland And Barrett), crisp bread, ryvita, flavoured rice cakes etc. Now I can go for days without crisps. [sm=eeeK.gif]
Thing is, you went from smoking to crisps because you still get drawn towards addictive substances. In addition to removing your crisp craving, I would look at the root cause of your addictions, or you will take up another addiction (whether it's intaking substances or another vice). If it's any help, I hear that if you're depressed, you tend to gravitate towards savoury snacks.
Good luck.

PS it's nice that people remember me for my crisp addiction!! [8D]
PPS it'll be on my gravestone: Here lies Darren. He ate 8 bags of crisps a day. Let that be a warning to you.
If its the salt/fat you crave, what about a teaspoonful full of peanut butter on a teaspoon?. I used to much thru 2 bags of crisps per day on occasion, but happily got sick of them. Other foods which are quite yummy in that line are olives (supermarket deli counter) and anchovies, both are much healthier for you, and also more initially satisfying, and go well with red wine too. Perhaps combine them with pasta for an evening meal?
Thanks for that, I never thought of peanut butter so I'll give it a go in moderation of course.......
Darren I think you've hit the nail on the head - I didn't think about me being depressed as my hubby has more than enough for us both - he fluctuates between OCD and paranoia, however I doubt I could be absorbing his moods - I felt physically sick and light headed the last time I gave him Reiki. I will obviously have to work on myself more...:)
Just a quick update - Hubby has been diagnosed as Coeliac and since cuttingout wheat and gluten has returned to his happy, fun loving self. Will NOWdefinitely stop eatingcrisps as I can join him in a healthier wheat free/crisp freediet- especially with the TV campaign showing thechild drinking cooking oil [:'(]Bring on the rice cakes...
Thanks for the update solas. For years I've been addicted to crisps, well... I've always gone through about a pack a day for as long as I can remember. I started buying maize snacks instead which have much fewer calories and recently I've stopped buying them all together which seems to work because if they aren't there I can't have them!
