Question:
I am about to start a VTCT Ear Candling course. Obviously we use massage couches at college but when you are mobile, do you absolutely require a massage couch? Would it be ethical for example to use the clients sofa or some other alternative i.e I have a Lafuma chair for reflexology. I'm sure it will all become clearer once I start my course but could you point me in the right direction, do I need to shell out for a couch?[&:]
Hi Kingsland, you will need something where your client can layon each sidewith just a support cushion in order for the candle to sit comfortably in the ear. This will be difficult to perform on the client's sofa as you need to be able to get to each ear easily - it could also become a fire hazard if your candle is near the back of the sofa - and, also as you handling the candle for 10-15 mins each ear, YOU need to be absolutely comfortable as well. I tried doing this therapy on the floor for someone once and my arm was in agony as it had no support. Unless anyone has any other ideas, I would think that a couch is your best bet. You may be able to shell out for a second hand one via ebay or from one of the professional magazines though - there are a few about.
Hope this helps

Yes, you have to be very comfortable to perform the treatment properly. I generally use a massage couch, but have also done the treatment using a settee and a bed. In both cases I ensured my comfort was maximum and that no risk to client or furnishings. You have to ensure safety is paramount. I've also done the treatment on children where I've sat on the settee with a pillow on my lap and they lie on the settee on their side and place head on lap, but generally its been for family members eg my son, my nephew, etc.
It will make more sense once you've done the course.
Hi,
I use a couch. I have used a settee & don't find it comfortable for me or the client & the client tends to sink into the couch or roll back into it. I have used a bed - we were on holiday at the time - a bit low, but doable. I have used a lafuma chair and to be honest the burn on the candle was not right & I wouldn't really be happy about doing it in the lafuma again.

I do hopi candling and I wouldnt be without a table, I tried to get a 2nd hand one on ebay with no luck however there are companies who sell new tables on ebay I got mine for just over 100 pounds, I now have 2, one for work and one for home, I wouldnt be without them, especially if you are going to branch out in to reiki or massage for example.
