How do I reduced my triglyceride level by diet?
Question:

Well, not my triglyceride levels, my partners! His cholestrol count is 4.0, good, but his triglyceride count is 3.2 - not good. Of course the doctor wants to use medication but I just wondered if there was anything we could do with diet and supplements - something more natural than the chemical cocktails that doctors seem to like?
Thanks,
Amber

Hi Amber Lady
Get one/some of Bary Sears' "Zone Diet" books - "Mastering the Zone" is good, but there are others which cover the same stuff.
I'm not saying it's the only suitable diet, (the GI Diet would probably be worth a look too) but he talks about Triglycerides and the effect of the Diet on them.
I find it a good, healthy diet if you do it properly. It is great for Type II diabetes, too.
It's an "adequate carbohydrate, adequate protein, low fat" diet.

Sorry, should have said, my mother has used this diet in combination with herbal and other supplements, has helped her.

Triglyceride is basically fat, and I cannot think of a more natural way to lose this than to simply eat right and exercise. Avoid fast food and french fries, cheesecake, ice-cream, oils, meat skin, and so on. For sensual satisfaction, replace those with lots of sweet fruits and juices, yummy-cooked vegetables and low-fat ice-cream. One hour in the gym everyday does wonders too.

Easy...proper diet and exercise! :)
"Bad Carbs" are the primary cause...white bread, white rice, cookies, cakes, sugar, corn, chips, crackers, cake, donuts, candy, bagels, fruit juice, high fructose corn syrup...
start slow and break the addition...and sugar free/synthetic sugars are NOT the answer...
You could also have a challenge with insulin resistance/Syndrome X...
Zone Dietis a good place to start...protein, complex carbs and good fats...
make sure you take a good liquid multi-vitamin/ mineral supplement and
Omega 3 essential fatty acids (Organic Flax and/or a good fish oil)
My father in law went for the drugs (Lipitor), instead of changing his diet...went for the diet cookies, stayed with white bread and jelly for breakfast, ate cereal for an evening snack ate anything that said sugar free...now he is a walking zombie and can't even think, etc...
Sad but his choice!
