Question:
Hi
I was speaking to a friend who had reflexology last year for the first time and she said that she was understandable quite nervous when she went for the treatment. When the therapist started she asked if she was stressed and nervous and when my friend replied that she was, the therapist pressed what she called the 'let down point' and it alleviated instantly all of my friends nervousness leaving her very relaxed. I was wondering what everyone thought this point could have been - could it have been the adrenal gland??

Hi Sass,
More likely to have been the solar plexus ~ on the diaphram line

Hi Sass,
I agree with Meridianmoon. I know some routines are different from others depending on the tutor etc, but we were taught that after the initial relaxing techniques, one of the first things to do was to work the Solar plexus, specifically to relax the client.
Good luck with the mobile business by the way. I am mobile and love it!!

Thanks guys, i'll have to incorporate this into my routine - is it just a general massage on the solar plexus area?

Hi Sass,
I normally get the client to breath deeply whilst I press on the area quite firmly. I do this 3 times at the beginning and 3 times at the end of the treatment.
Most people go ... oooh that feels lovely !!!!

Hi Sass,
I agree with the comments above. I always include extra work on the solar plexus points of my clients who are particularly stressed. It works a treat. Like MeridianMoon i ask my clients to breath deeply while i apply firm pressure tothe points in time with their breathing. Try including this into your routine, and don't forget to ask for feedback from your client after the treatment.
Take care

Oohh I can't wait to try that now! I like it when the clients respond well to something - makes you feel good! Just wish i could do it on myself!! :D

I was taught to only do it at the beginning, but I like the sound of doing it at the end too!
I was trained to ask the client to take 3 deep breaths in through their nose and out of their mouths. The pressure is then applied to the solar plexus on the out breath. It is quite often at this stage that they stop their chatting and relax!!
Take care

It's really rather nice to do the solar plexus breathing at the end of the treament - it brings the clients awareness back to you - and the connection between therapist and client is reestablished consciously. It's also an energising move to use and can really help someone come around. I sometimes use this vertically if I find a client is quite spaced out at the end of a treatment and needs a lift once their treatment is over.
