High SPF's no good????
Question:

Whilst in beauty college the other night the tutor mentioned 'that there is no point of wearing anything above a spf15 as it won't do much more good????'. I don't understand this as I wasalways led to believe that obviously the higher the spf the more protection you get. If this is the case I'm wasting my money buying high spf's but on the other hand no way do I want to go out on hols and be burnt! Can anyone share any wisdom on this as I'm utterly confused and hols are looming!

I do wonder where these people get these stories from sometimes!
I'm sure you know that there are three forms of ultraviolet light, UVA that is responsible for the aging effects and dryness, UVB, which causes redness and burns and UVC that thankfully is mostly blocked out by the ozone layer because otherwise we would be burnttoast!
Sunscreens don't always block UVA so make sure you get one that does UVA and UVB.
Its a simple fact that the higher the SPF the longer you can spend in the sun, the higher factors , mostly over spf30 though not 15 contain blocking ingredients like zinc oxide that makerthe skin look temporarily greyish white. Some brands use chemical blockers instead and these are expensive.
What does matter is the thickness or dose that you put on. It may be better to keep reapplying spf 15 3 or 4 times over the day than wear a sticky spf 60 depending on why you are wearing it. The spf 60 like all sunscreens will also be affected by sweat and moisture and use, so by the end of the day it may have worn off :(

Thanks for that Crystal.... obvious now that you've pointed it out but it can be confusing especially when your college tutor says something and you have to work out whether or not to believe it.
