Mung beans - can they cause harm?

Hi there,
For the first time on Monday I cookedmung beans. I prepared as instructed on the packet (wash, rub and remove any loose shells, soak for couple of hours) and then boiled them until tender. I planned to fry some spices and add them to the beans but I was tootired. In the end I ate a bowl of themung beans (just boiled) as a soup and stirred in some aubergine chutney which was very tasty.
Since Monday (not directly after eating the mung beans)I have felt very unwell, lightheaded, headachesand am experiencing a loss of appetite. I told a friend and he said 'you have to be careful not to over do it with mung beans', but I didn't ask him to elaborate.
Can over eating of mung beans be harmful. I only had one bowl which is not a huge amount, but again today I feel terrible and have a very dull headache and my tastbuds are confused.
Any ideas if the two are connected?

Hi there,
I googled mung beans and looked through a lot of pages and couldn't see anything but praise for them??? Here's a summary of what i found....
A small green bean, most commonly sprouted
Serving Suggestion
The Mung bean are sweet,soft and are easily digested when cooked. Add to soups and stews or cold in salads. When sprouted the mung bean is a good source of Vitamin C, eat raw or lightly stir fried.
Cooking Instructions
Soak overnight, bring to the boil in fresh water and cook for approx 1 hour.
Nutritional Information
Per 100g: Enery 981kJ/231kcal, Protein 22g, Carbohydrate 35.6g, fat 1.0g. A small green bean, most commonly sprouted.
The only thing I can see you may have done is not soaked them for long enough but if ya followed the instructions on the packthen it's beyond me why they effected you like that? Are you sure you didn't eat anything else 'off' that day? Perhaps ask your friend to elaborate? Sorry I couldn't of been anymore help.

I don't know - it may have just been a fluke that you were ill at this time - pr perhaps you had to many the body didn't know what to do with them. As with all things - you may have overdone it or they may not suit you. You could always see if you have a few if you get the same thing - but that depends if you really feel they are the culprits and want to take the risk. Are you ok with other pulses?
