Help, where is the heart?
Question:

Hi there, bit of a panick has set in, looking at the chart the college has given me (hand drawn photo copy) the heart is on both feet below the big toe, just set in from the spine, two of my case study's have got a serious amount of crunching or popping as our tutor calls it. After looking this up on a chart from a book named Refloxology Vicky Pitman this shows the heart only on the left foot and in the middle. Whos right and are my clients going to have a heart attack!
Any info i would be grateful

Hi AJ
Dont panic.....if you are not sure about any reaction you have with Reflexology you can always advise them to go to their Doctor as you are concerned. It could just be a pulled muscle or trapped wind around the heart whichor anything like this. In either case these minor problems can be extremelypainful. You would need to know what to look for in a possible heart condition. Family medical history for instance. What other physical symptoms do they have? It is very difficult to diagnose from a forum room.
As far as charts are concerned you couldlook on google. Just type in 'reflexology' and then look at google images. You can find a load of different charts their and you can then see and judge for yourself.
Whatever you say to client keep it calm and as relaxed as you can without overly worrying your client but making sure that they take your advise seriously enough to go to their doctor......if you feel that what you are finding needs that type of investigation.
Hope that helps some

Hi AJ,
To me, the heart is on the left foot as reflected by the actual position in the body. I gently do anti-clockwise circles on both sides of the foot.
Hope that helps,

Thank you, actually some of it makes a bit more sense now, one client is suffering from heart burn and indigestion, so there could be a link. Going to need a few sessions myself once this is all over. I have studied body massage and aromatherapy but this I feel is a tad bit harder than I thought. Would'nt it be easier if we could get them all to have reflexology tattoos on their feet. Hope my tutor is reading this.
Thanks again

Hi AJ
I know that most charts are different but if it helps at all I was taught that the heart reflex is in zone 1 of the right foot and zones 1 to 3 of the left foot (as the heart is positioned slightly to the left of the body). I use gentle thumb walkingtechniques (medially to laterally). As in previous posts this could be related to heartburn/indigestion and also stress.
I bought a great footchart from the AoR website.
Hope this helps

Hi aj,
I've also found the heart reflex area to be on the left foot ~ it's worth remembering though that the heart reflex is also overlapping the lung area so it may well be that your finding. Lung reflexes can simply show stress & tension.
More importantly please be careful not to overly worry your clients ~ Reflexologists do not diagnose!!!!!~ if you're really worried about something you find, you have to be careful how you word it. Never tell a client that you think they have a heart problem ..... look at the full consultation, family history, symptoms and if need be perhaps ask the client the last time the had their blood pressure checked? This way you might get them to the doctors but not worrying that they're about to have a heart attack !!!
With heart burn etc you'll normally find reflexes in the digestive system too.
Hope this helps

Hi
Your quite right Meridianmoon no completmentary therapist can diagnose what is actually wrong with them. That is only the job of a Doctor! What you can diagnose though is the type of treatment or advise from what you find.....ie by picking up the crunches and pops you have found a point of healing which leads to discussion which leads to advising what best to do on those points but the ultimate diagnosis is the Doctors not ours therefore never suggest that a client has a 'heart condition' just because you have a reaction there. But I think you know that......right?
Jst another thought that got sparked from Meridianmoon that as the heart is an overlap to the lungs this could also suggest congestion in the lungs but only in the simple terms of maybe hayfeverish, or just getting over a cough or cold.....just keep asking a few simple questions and you will soon come to the bottom of your clients ailments.....one day you will know instinctively what each little pop and crunch means and what it is likely to indicate.
How Meridianmoon describes getting a client to the doctors without unduely worrying the client is another way of descretely motivating them and this can be applied to any condition but 9/10 it is usually just an ailment that is extremely uncomfortable and if not you have done you client a service getting them to the doctor quickly....hopefully!

Hello aj
I always treat the heart on the left foot in the usual place but also on the right foot in the same area just over zone one as the heart lies in the middle of the lungs under the sternum.
By the way don't confuse heartburn with a heart condition as this is caused by excess acid from the stomach rising up and causing a burning sensation at or above the area of the heart, so therefore it's a digestion problem.
