Question:
Hi everyone,
Wonder if you could help me out (again...) and answer another question?:)
Whenever I give myself Reiki at the back of the neck, just below the skull, I often feel a powerful surge of energy.
At first I was wondering whether it's the same as the throat chakra, but I don't get the sameexperience when I put my hands around my throat. It does feel very different. Any ideas what it might be and what it relates to?
Also, with the chakras, are they actually located at the front of the body, or more inside and therefore directly accessible from the front and the back position?
Thanks very much,
Hugs,
Holistic Earth

I'd say they are accesable from the front & back...like the actual chakras run down the centre of the body. As to your other questions though, I don't know. Perhaps it has something to do with the top of ur spine as opposed to chakras? Just a thought.

It sounds to me as if you might be referring to a pressure point. If you apply gentle pressure here, it can help to relieve stress, tension and headaches. Thus allowing in a surge of energy? I was taught at Reiki 1 to do this when applying the hand position where you slide your hands under the client's head and gently feel for the slight indentation at the base of the skull.
There are lots of pressure points like this all over the body. One is on the palm of the hand, where you can press gently with the opposite thumb – self-healing. Instant calm! :) Another is on the sole of the foot, in the middleand is used by reflexologists to relax a client. A reflexologist could probably give more precise information on this, and its location.
For chakras, these two sites seem to have a lot of info, and may answer your other questions:

I read somewhere recently - and I can't remember where, that the chakras are depicted as flat because at the time they were first painted, that was the painting style: 3D wasn't in the mindset. However it seems logical to assume that the chakras are 3 dimensional global energy centres, as much at the back of the neck as at the front of the throat.
However, I would also agree with Laura and Shining Star - the base of the neck is a common source of tension, which is possibly what you were sensing.
Have a think about your posture.........

This may be near the bottom of the third eye chakra from behind, or a pressure point lime holistic mentioned.
To my knowledge the Chakras go right through the body front and back. If you look at Kunalini rising energy it goes from the base chakra right up the body (the spine I think) and up through the head. The chakras are connected along this main energy way.
A great book on all this stuff is "Kundalini and the Chakras" by Genevieve Lewis Paulson. It full of some really interesting stuff about the flow of energy.

Hi, :)
The chakras do indeed radiate through the front and back of the spine. For example, treating the solar chakra at the front is different to treating the solar from the rear. Here's an exampleI use inmy Reiki 1 teaching manual as previously given to me by my teacher...
Solar Plexus: Front:[/b] When healthy, the individual will have a fulfilling emotional life. If it is damaged/torn then there can be great extremes of emotions. If closed then the feeling may be blocked, even to the point of not feeling anything, the individual will not know his place in the universe nor appreciate his own uniqueness. This chakra can act as a block between the heart and the expression of sexuality, so if the heart and sacral chakras are open but the solar plexus chakra is closed/blocked, then sex will not be connected to love and vice versa.
Back:[/b] Relates to physical health and self love. If the individual has strong love for the body and looks after it well this centre is open. This is also known as the Healing Centre and is well developed in healers. This chakra is closely connected with the front chakra and if the front is open then usually the back is open as well, so knowing and accepting one's place in the universe can have a direct impact on one's physical health. Relates to the Pancreas.
How may the client work with their ego in a way to blend it with the soul even more? Is there anyone the client is involved in a power struggle with in this area and how may the client release it and take it to their heart?
How may the client express their personal power more effectively?
Regarding the back of the neck issue Holistic Earth. The back of the neck is an energetic centre for connecting with higher beings and dimensions of light. It may be that you are being guided to "Open to channel" and connect more consciously with either the Reiki guides or your Spiritual guides. Do you feel drawn to verbally channeling your guides or working with guides, light work and higher beings?
:)
Bless

Thank you everyone for your advice and information[sm=1syellow1.gif]I never received much on the chakras in my Reiki manuals and although I have the book Reiki and the 7 Chakras, I have always been puzzled with the back and front situation.
It's interesting to read, Bryan, that there is a different effect in treating back and front of chakra. Also what you said about the point in relation to channelling and working with guides, light work - that totally makes sense, too. I'll get to work straight away and see what happens;).
Thanks again,[sm=grouphug.gif]
