Question:
Whats your ideal massage medium? and why?
Have you had any bad experiences with some mediums?

Hi Jiggly Puffs,
I much prefer to use oils to massage with. It'seasier to work with as it makes the movememts so much smoother.
I find that working with a cream can become very gloopy and have always needed to keep applying more and more throughout the massge to enable me to glide over the skin.
This may sounds strange but when using Talc my hands become numb with the sensation of the friction.
Although you do have to remember that if you've got a client coming for a massge they should be prepared to get some of the medium in their hair (part of my routine involves the head). You should just ask if they mind this during the consultation. I find most don't mind.
Good luck x
When I was training in reflexology I used some of the vaseline intensive care body lotion and ended up with the client having little black manky sweaty bits all over her feet.. glad it wasn't a proper client! Another one where I massaged a friends feet, again during a training session and there was too much lotion on the feet after and she slipped a bit! Always make the feet nice now after a treatment! Keep H&S in mind!
One problem with massage creams is when you put them on someone with for example a hairy back you can end up with creamy smears on their depending on the direction you effleurage in so you have to try and rub it in nicely! So much nicer when you can use the proper oils!
Hi Jiggly PuffsIf you want to avoid the stained towels and tunics then oils are no good to you, creams area little thick for massage, I prefer a lotion as is feels like oil when working but it mostly absorbs without leaving them feeling like a greasy chip :-)
I prefer to use a lotion. I've had a lot of clients say 'wow I don't feel greasy after, I love whatever you use'. A while ago, I switched back to a cream because it was cheaper.I found it really thick, and people stopped telling me how much they love my lotion all of a sudden! So I'm back tolotion. I used grapeseed oil in school and found that it stained my sheets.
