Question:
Hi All
Just wanting to pick your brains. When treating clients, do you advise them of how many sessions you think they may need? Or do you leave it up to them to ring you when they feel they need another appointment?
I have come across many different views on this and would like to hear more opinions and personal experiences. Some say it should be left up to the client to book and we shouldn't influence them in any way. Others say we should tell them to book say 1 session a week for the next few weeks.
Also, if you do advise clients they will need so many sessions, what frequency of sessions do you advise? Once a week? Three sessions a week? Once a month etc?
I look forward to hearing from you

Personally, if I go for a treatment and it is suggested how often I should come back, I always feel as if I am being pushed into it - though I know from my own training that it is just advice.
Unless asked, I tend not to recommend further treatments, though I probably should. I haven't had anyone with something that needs a lot of work in a short time - more something they could benefit from once a month. I also think that people tend to 'feel' when they need/want to accept more treatments, though I am sure I will have others disagreeing with that.
As you say, everyone will have different opinions which I am looking forward to reading!

I treat each client differently, Donna, so can't really generalise here.
There is also what's known as a "Reiki Intensive" for chronic conditions ... that's a treatment on four consecutive days, at approximately the same time each day.
I was taught this at Reiki 1 ... when I first learned Reiki with a group of five friends, and we were encouraged to meet up regularly for shares, which we did, and also to arrange one to one Reiki Intensives between pairs of us.
I and another member of the group did this - my four sessions and then hers ...ie not dovetailed ... and it was VERY powerful. All free, of course, but our RMT had suggested that from the client's point of view, for whom this could be costly, if they book the four sessions, they pay for three and thefourth one is free.
NOT a loss leader, or selling tactic, but trying to help them financially as well.

For me I ask for 3 sessions (including the consultation) on a weekly basis. This is because I keep records that take scores each time from the client so by the third session I have something visual to show them how the Reiki is working for them. After that it is entirely up to them. Some do not need any more as the problem has been healed, others prefer once a month for what they call a "top up"! Some continue until their problem is managable. I'm like you in the fact I did not want to say "you need seven sessions" as it sounded like I might be stringing them along lol!, and as we all know Reiki can work miracles sometimes!

Thanks for your replies ladies. Some interesting Ideas. At the moment I just leave it up to the client to re book but to be honest, sometimes I feel treatment would be more effective if, as you say Reiki Angel they booked say three weekly appointments.
Take fpr example a client I had who had problems and pain with her hip. I left it up to her to make the next appointment. She felt fine after the first Reiki session and didn't feel like she needed anymore for it. It's a month down the line now and she's booked another appointment because she said the pain has started to come back now. This is fine and I will treat her again, but I can't help but feel she would have been better off having the second appointment earlier rather than later.
As for the intensive Reiki, I have tried this also on non paying clients (mainly my mum and her bad back), I treated her every single day for about two weeks and it really did work wonders. I don't know if I would suggest this to clients though. If a client has cancer I do prefer to treat them every day until they reach the conclusion of the illness, (whatever it may be) but I do not generally charge for these healings (controversial I know).
I look forward to seeing how this thread develops

Hiya all,
I've spoken to many clients who've perhaps had treatments fromother therapistsand have been "put off" by being toldat the time of the first treatment that they need to book six in advance.
I feel it's important to build up trust with your new clients and never tell them on the first treatment how many I think they should have. I do however explain to them that "everybody is different and each set of circumstances is different but "generally"most people needXYZ treatments" and that it's down to them to go away and see how they feel in a couple of days. No pressure !!!
I think if you leave people knowing you're available and willing but also give them a sense of control over their own recovery and wellbeing it's the best way forward.
