Question:
Hello
I am currently studying for my VTCT Advanced Reflexology qualification and as part of it we have to do a presentation to our group on a "Related Therapy". HavingexperiencedEFT a few years ago and it having an impact I thought it would be nice to share my experience and impart information to my group about EFT. We have to provide history and background of the chosen therapy and carry out a practical session.
I have downloaded the emofree.com manual which is excellent, but was wondering if any practitioners of EFT had any guidance they could offer me with regard to carrying this out in a group setting for demonstration purposes. Should I be doing a practical session like this? If not, would any practitioners in the Kent area like to come a long and show us how it works? Your advice would be gratefully accepted.
Many thanks
Sue
I have to admit I do more of a workshop than a dry this is EFT talk, EFT sounds like madness - telling someone they can remove negative associations by tapping themselves on various points of the body just makes them wonder what you've put in your coffee! I normally do a brief explanation of what EFT is, a meridian therapy, a little on the history and its roots and a little on what it is.. and how it works to remove blockages. I think all those things are in the manual?
I tend to provide a worksheet for attendees to take home with them which shows the tapping points, pm me if you want to see this. I then get the attendees to think of something they have a problem with, a phobia such as public speaking, spiders or perhaps something like someone they have a grievance with, or even something they wish they were better at. I then ask them to tune into the problem and rate it uses the SUDs system in the manual, then we tap a round. Don't get bogged down trying to explain the points, just say they are linked to acupressure points.. they can ask questions on this afterwards if they wish. Just get them to do a round, rate it, then work out if it's going down or if someone else needs working on. In 30 minutes you can get quite a few rounds in. If you prefer - this is what I do.. grab some people out of the audience, or just one, and work on them - and other taps along. If you can get hold of any of the EFT DVDs on Gary Craigs site or know someone with them, you'll see the format for this, and it works pretty well, and in some cases very quickly.
To explain the principle look up borrowing benefits on the emofree site.. it's a pretty cool principle and very effective.
A few ideas.. hopefully of some use, happy to explain in more detail if you need and best of luck!!
I think a demo by a practitioner is best in case of any (rare in a demo) abreaction.
Where in Kent, Sue, in case I know anyone?
Thanks for your response. I only have about 30-40 mins and it's only to about 7 people (lots of drop outs on our course). The aim is to give an insight into the therapy so that if interested they can go off and be more interested in their own time if they want to and also so that we can have a greater understanding of some of the other therapies available to recommend to our clients. On my original holistic therapy course we had to do a similar thing, and I did Crystals, as I work with them, could cop out and do this again, but thought the challenge of a new subject would be better.
Do you think it would work if I just get one of them to help in the demo. Get them to think about an event/occurrence that upsets them and then get them to SUD it and then do a couple of rounds etc. Would this be too invasive for the individual?
We are all studying for Advance Reflex and they are all open to alternative techniques. We have reiki, hopi, aroma, reflex, indian head, spiritual healing, aura soma and many other types of therapies amongst the qualifications and experience already achieved. We have discussed what we might do for our presentations and some of them already knew ofEFT and the others I briefed at that point. They understand meridians and pathways etc as we use them in our course, so the madness thing shouldn't be a problem, hopefully although you never know.....
Thanks
Sue
My college is in Gravesend, North Kent. Not far off the A2.
Thanks
