Do you think leg warming is a good thing?
Question:

Hi
On our course we are taught to do a leg warming routine at the beginning of the treatment which involves stroking, effleurage and kneading from ankle to knee before starting on the reflexology treatment itself.
Whenever I've had reflexology treatments in the past it didn't include leg warming, just straight onto the foot for the treatment. I was wondering whether you think the warming up routines areanimportant part of thetreatment or not? I can't decide whether I would include this in my routine after I qualify or not.

Hi There
I am just finishing my Reflexology course - on this we have been trained to give foot relaxation to both feet before starting the reflexology routine, my clientsall seem to enjoy this. I never massage or warm up the leg.
Hope this helps

Hi Bumpkin
Could you tell me what sort of foot relaxation you do? Is it just general massage all over the foot? I'minterested in what others have been trained to do.

Hi Sandra
I do a sequence of 12 steps to relax my clients before I start the reflexology treatment :
1. Gentle pull on the ankles
2. Get client to take some good deep breaths and as they exhale press on solar plexus (x3)
Do you have a book with some pictures of how to perform different steps - I feel it is difficult for me to put down on this posting just how each step is performed - but this is how I have it:
3. Feather stroke
4. Shake & Bake
5. Lung Press
6. Achill Tendon stretch
7. Rotation of ankle
8. Floppy
9. Rotation and pull off toes
10. Thumb X (cross thumbs down then pull up)
11. Spinal twist
12. Hugger (hug hands rouns foot)
I do think you have to be shown how to do each step - I just cant put it into words
Hope this helps
Best regards
Bumpkin
