Nutrition Course
Question:

I am looking at doing a Nutrition course with the School of Natural Health Sciences via correspondence.
Has anyone done their Nutrition/Advanced Nutrion course? I would love some feedback as to whether its a good one to take as I would like to go on to become a Nutritional Advisor.
I currently live in South Africa so unfortunately I cant afford to do anything too expensive at the moment.

Answers:

hi,
I have their full course texts, and to be honest, you may as well save yourself some money and buy a good nutrition book, as there will be more information in that.
I recommend 'The Food Bible' by Judith Wills, or one of the books by Patrick Holford.
There is a link to the right of the page for an e-learning nutrition course, and this looks much better than the SNHS one.

Answers:

I did this course about 5 years ago, and I too was disappointed in the course content.
I did a Stress Management course with them as well, againI felt that I could have learned just as much from reading a book.
SorryI can't recommend a course/course provider too you though.
I did sign up for a course In Weight Loss Management with the Open College in Birmingham earlier this year, but sent the course back for a refund in disgust. How these colleges manage to get so many clients and registered memembers I don't know - (NHS Trust course providers, members of CMA etc) - but for my Weight Management course i was sent 1 textbook (value £12) and some photocopied exam papers (don't bother studying the course, just read through the book for the answers as a shortcut to success, haha!).
A quick flick through my exam papers saw them pose a question "what are the advantages of the ATKINSONS diet?"!
The textbook was very vague and basic too - my consclusion after a quick flick through was that it was telling you to cut down on your calories. How original!
Having said that I am now studying (Personal Fitness Training)with an American College(NESTA) and their material and coursework is excellent - of a very high standard. Not sure if they do a pure nutrition course though.
