Food combining principle
Question:

Dear foodies,
Having recently gone through a phase of bowel problems, which have led to bleeding when passing stools, I decided to take action.
The bleeding got so bad the other day I had to go for an emergency inspection. A doctor told me I had an anal fissure (a tear at opening of anus). I have an appointment with a bowel specialist to see if there are more serious problems, such as colitis or crohns.
But being a self sufficient person I went in search of logic. I found info on the principles of food combining, and have been putting this into practise for the past 4 days. This morning I had my first 'normal' stool in months! So, this seems to be a very healthy lifestyle change. My gut feels much calmer also.
For those of you who don;t know, this method is not a diet as such, but purely a means of avoiding non compatible foods, which upset the digestion when eaten together, since the digestion processes different foods in a different way, and can therefore only cope with one process at a time.
The rules are that you avoid starch and protein together. So no fish/meat/cheese/egg with rice/pasta/potatoes/bread. In other words, eating veg with your protein, or veg with your starches.
What I'd like though, is to hear from others who follow this way of eating, and to hear about any quick/easy/delicious dishes that follow this priciple. Particularly for breakfast and lunch. As I'm running short of ideas at these mealtimes, except for humus on bread which is allowed, but too much of it sends me gassing in the corner!
So please post your ideas here!!
And for those of you with bowel problems, I strongly recommend you try this. Even for a few months to give your digestion a break.
Spring sunshine and smiles,
Sole X

Hi Sole!
Wow, someone as like-minded as myself! I have been practicing Food Combining for about 18months now after suffering badly with irritable bowel symptoms (particularly bloating and wind, as well as a generally upset stomach). And wow, what a change - not only do I feel amazing but I've dropped a good dress size or more.
As for recipes I'm yet to fully experiment - I am vegetarian and could do with finding some good recipes. Have you read Gillian McKeith's book 'You are what you eat'? I believe that works along the same principle and also has recipes in it as well. In fact I think that's where I first got the idea to give this a go. The only way I can explain it is my insides feel 'clean' and unclogged in some way!!
I tend to stick mostly to things like rice or pasta with vegetables or omelette with vegetables in it. Or jacket potato and beans. They're just some quick examples - I really need to be a little more adventurous!!

The best food combining I found is with Mikhal Tombak's book Can We Live 150 years? You can find parts of it here : http://starthealthylife.com/page125.htm

but you have to know that combining the right foods is only part of it, you also have to know when to eat them. Raw and dried fruit are to be eaten alone 20 minutes before a meal, bananas and milk shouldn't be combined with any other food, and you should keep a 2-3 hour difference beftween eating carbohydrate food and protein food, so if you eat something from the protein foods wait 2-3 hours before eating something from the carbohydrate foods.

Good luck with everything
