Question:
:)Hi guys
First of all a merry xmas and a happy new year to you all! I love this site!
One quick question what is the 'washing off' after a treatment and how is it done? I am wondering if it is the stroking method in Hatsui rei Ho!!
I appreciate your replys!:D
Hi Wesley,
I haven't heard of 'washing off', but a lot of Reiki people will some little ritual to remind themselves that they have 'disconnected' from the recipient at the end of a session: blowing through the hands, rubbing the hands, shaking the hands etc. Kenyoku could be used as an alternative, certainly.
Best wishes,
Thanks Taggart for your extremely quick reply

ignore this one - see the next: my computer keeps tellling me it has failed!
Hi Wesley
My understanding of washing off is to do the following to remove any energies that may have stuck to you:
Put your right hand on your left shoulder. Sweep hand down arm, over hand and off - 'throwing' any energies away (remember not to aim at another person!) Then repeat on your right arm and then again on your left.
Then put your right hand on the top left of your chest. Sweep your hand diagonally down over torso (ending at right hip) and off - 'throwing' any energies away. Again, repeat starting at the top right of your chest and then again starting top left.
Sorry if this is confusing - I have never tried to describe it before! All I can say is TRY IT - it really does work! It is great to use after you have treated someone (any therapy) but is also brill if, for example, you have had an argument or come across an 'energy vampire' that has left you feeling crap.
Hope this helps.
Love and Peace

Hi White Light,
Many healers 'wash off'.
Some even physically wash their hands. This can be a cleanliness act as well as a breaking-off from their connection with the person they have been healing.
Some healers just shake their hands - like trying to get rid of a sticky piece of paper. Others use Kenyoku. There are at least three ways (all very similar) of performing Kenyoku.
Use whichever disconnection technique feels comfortable to you and which does not offend your clients.
Thanks for your reply white light!
I will try them, and see what I feel more comfortable with! I am relatively new at this, and I have never come across an energy vampire? What does that feel like and what happens?
Just curious!
Love and light

whatever method we use , it is important to dis-connect from a client after treatment by kenyoko, or physically washing hands or some other method.
otherwise you could keep a connection with the client and actually retain some of their traits. hmmm

Hi Wesley
'energy vampire' sounds far worse than it is!! Just one of those people that when you've spent some time with, you end up feeling really drained! Just drain you of any energy.....

Hi White Light,
I met a Reiki Master a few years ago who was an energy vampire. I just wanted to run away screaming! I could feel all my energy draining away from me, until I realised what was happening and put up a big brick wall between them and me.
Phew!
Hi Taggart
It's strange isn't it....when I first started Reiki, I thought I'd have this wonderful affinity with all who had anything to do with Reiki...but I've met a couple of Reiki Masters now who have been what I would call very 'un-Reiki'. For example, when I did Reiki 1 I was at college and my tutor there was also a Reiki Master (not mine). As soon as she knew I had done Reiki 1, she took my hand, put it over hers and said 'go on then, show off!' - in front of the whole class! Needless to say, I didn't oblige - it was the very next day after my attunement and she made me feel as though I had failed because I didn't feel all this energy surging through me (I know now how wrong this was!)
I guess this just proves that we are all still individuals, with or without Reiki. But, for me, it has made me question the title 'master' - the Master mentioned above may have taken Reiki 3, and may have great warmth flowing, but I do not feel she has yet 'mastered' the true compassion and meaning of Reiki - or does that sound cruel?
Love and Peace

Hi White Light,
There are lots of really lovely Reiki people out there, you know.
I have been lucky enough to have taught the original Usui Reiki techniques to Reiki2s and Masters on courses all over the country: Scotland, Wales, South Coast, Midlands, North West, London, East Anglia... and I have met so many really talented and compassionate Reiki people.
I have trained many people to Master level, too, and they are lovely people.
The 'ego thing' is an easy trap to fall into, in teachers of Reiki and also in practitioners who call themselves a 'healer', as if it is them that is doing the healing. I believe that we should cultivate 'beginner's mind': reminding ourselves that no matter how much we might think we know, there is always more to learn.
Some Reiki Masters get caught up in the 'competition' frame of mind, too, where they feel threatened by other teachers near them.
The title 'Master' is a bit of an unfortunate one really. When people ask me what I do I tell them that I teach people how to do Reiki. I don't say that I am a Reiki Master, with all the connnotations of Superman cloaks, massive power and status etc.
Again the 'title' trap is there too, with some Masters calling themselves 'Grand Master', or 'Sensei' or 'Shihan'. These latter titles are nonsense, and very rude. In Japan you never call yourself a Sensei: this is something that your students might call you to honour you as a teacher, but you would never appropriate this title for yourself, and to call oneself a - for example - Gendai Reiki Shihan is pure arrogance and ego in my view.
You have just been unlucky enough to have come across Reiki people who have a fair amount of potential for further development, and who perhaps aren't focusing on the Reiki precepts as much as they could.
But you know the right way to behave, so don't worry about other people. It's their journey.
Best wishes,
Dear Taggart
I agree completely with what you've said....don't worry, I know those people I spoke of are the exception. If anything, this forum has strengthened my belief in the wonder of Reiki - thanks to everyone!
I think I have met both fabulous / warm / light people through Reiki and also those with an ego, to teach me that Reiki is not a 'solution' to all things negative....I was drawn to Reiki as I had many questions that I wanted to answer, but my experiences have shown me I am on a path - as is everyone else. Reiki is a wonderful tool to further my development, but is not an easy answer - thank god, because if it was I don't think I'd grow at all!
Have a wonderful Christmas.
Love and Peace

I know what you are saying there are many wonderful people I have met through Reiki and they are the by far the majority however I have come across the "ego brigade" sadly it happens in all therapy. I have seen individuals come into reiki with all good intentions to be sucked into the ego state I send them reiki for love and light and hope it helps them to move on.
