Question:
Hi,
A friend of mine is considering trying the GI diet and has been asking if i knew anyone who has tried it? Unfortunately i don't but i was just wondering if there is anyone out there that has, and how have they got on with it etc...
Thanks.....
My husband has been following the GI Diet for nearly 2 years - he was diagnosed with high BP and our doc recommended he adopt the principles of it - he did, and now admits that he has never felt so well! He didn't need to lose much weight, but has lost just over 1 stone. We don't keep any junk in the house if we can help it, other than the occasional bag of Sensations (who can resist!), but we have all benefitted from joining in. He does have the odd glass or two of Valpollywotnot, but you have to have time off sometimes! ;)
The diabetes nurse recommended this to my partner a couple of years ago, not for weight loss as such, morefor good diet and blood sugar control, and it's been great. However at the last visit she suggested that we look at the GL diet instead - the next step on in good blood sugar control.
It will help you to lose weight sensibly, but is also good for controlling energy.
If you like to live life on the edge or are into self-harm, the Atkins Diet is perfect. [8D]
My friend did it and lost almost 4 stone. She keeps to it now, but occasionally has a 'naughty' treat and has never regained the weight in 2 years.
by "it" I assume you mean the GI diet? good for her, then!:)
I try to follow it, not to lose weight, but to improve my ability to stay awake at work :D
Hi
I too have heard good thingd about the GI diet although have not attempted it myslef. It appears alot more intuitive and balanced than something like atkins.
I found for me however that i was overweight becasue my relationship with food was bad. When i started looking at my weight as a psychological and not purely physical phenomenon then i began to deal with the real issues behind my over eating. I have never been a fan of diets as they always caused me to put on weight becasue they further disrupted my already negetive relationship with food.
I only had to lose about 1stone and a half but i think these issues are relevent no matter how much weight you have to lose. I started to use paul mckennas 'i can make you thin' whihc includes a mind programming cd and it has been brilliant and my relationship with food has changed so much.
Sorry went a bit [sm=offtopic.gif]there but hope this helps.

The thing about the GI diet is that it is about eating food that is as unprocessed as possible eg brown bread vs white bread. The Atkins is about cutting out carbs from your diet - a food group that your body needs.
The GI diet is a way of eating that you can do for a lifetime. The Atkins diet is a diet you could pursue if you wanted a short lifetime. :D

It is true that avoiding processed foods is often a part of the GI diet but I think it is a bit more than that. The main thrust of the GI diet is to eat foods that release energy slowly into your blood. These foods leave you feeling satisfied for longer and with less calories. Ultimately it is a calorie controlled diet like most, but it helps you by not leaving you feeling hungry all the time.

Yes, very true. That's the reason why I follow the GI diet.
I just noticed there is a 99p book in Tesco on the GI diet, for anyone who is interested.
I too have become interested in the GI/GL way of eating and noitce that I can hunger pangs stay at bay for longer.
I will keep my eye open for the 99p booklet, as at the mo I have a couple of books from the library to study
