How do you trust yourself?
Question:

I was just trained in reiki one yesterday. today i tried reiki on myself and couldnt feel any energy coming out. i just did a session on my friend and i felt it only out of my left hand, i felt a burning almost in the heart chakra and the feet. other than that i felt like crying. Trusting that the reiki is in there and that the attunement took is a big deal. Ive tried doing the reiki symbol for the key but i already forgot if its counterclockwise for the spiral or clockwise..LOL...mostly i have felt a sensation come out of my left hand. Is there any advice anyone can give me about how to trust myself more?

Dear perfectcusp,
Congratulations on taking your Level One and welcome to HP.
Your concerns are shared by many 'newbies' and I'm sure if you have a good look through this forum you will see many have asked a similar question to yours!
Your attunement did 'take'. You are feeling sensations so the energy is flowing. Remember not to compare your experiences with anyone elses, each is personal to them. Also remember to detach from the outcome, ie YOU are not healing, Reiki is. You are a channel for it to work through. Confidence will come the more you use it so Reiki anyone you can get your hands on, pets, plants food etc!. The more you do the more it will flow. Also don't forget to Reiki yourself every day, this is quite important.
There are some wonderful healers out there who feel absolutely nothing themselves but keep going because of the feed-back of those receiving the energy. It's early days yet my love so "just for today do not worry"! As for the symbolsyou don't normally learn those until Level Two sonot toworry about them yet. There is so much to take in when you start this path but the thing is not to panic lol.
If you have more questions (which you probably will) ask your RM or ask here, there will always be someone 'around' to help.

Dear Perfectcusp,
I smiled :Dwhen you said that you did not feel anything and then said you had a burning sensation in the heart chakra and felt like crying.
When you channel energy, you are channelling unconditional love. The love touches your heart chakra and is so beautiful that you may feel like crying, sometimes it is called a healing crisis, when you yourself are receiving healing. I went to give healing to a little girl in hospital recently and as I drove there I cried uncontrolably - I am 55 by the way. As I tune in and ask to be used as the channel the energy overwhelms me sometimes and that is how I deal with it; it makes me cry. Also if I need to take on any negative energies to help someone - you won't do this yet - I can't stop going to the toilet. That is how I get rid of the things I take on.
So all in all I think you are going to be a great healer [sm=angel-smiley-027.gif]well done indeed!
Best wishes

Reiki angel thanks so much! im trying too hard. yes you are right, i should look at it in the sense that its not me i just thought id feel more coming through thats all. but what you said has helped me. Ill read this over and over again until it sinks in. Thanks Poppet also!
Publisher: im so sorry but what I meant was the person i was healing made me feel a burning sensation through my left hand come out of their heart chakra. But either way, what you said was very beautiful and sounds right. I was impressed with the experience. Maybe thats why i was crying a little. i had lit a candle and the flame was high and asked for my guides to be there. i also get emotional when i see the universe working with me!

Hello perfectcusp
It sounds as if your Reiki Master is one who teaches the Cho Ku Rei (CKR) at first degree. Quite a number seem to be doing this now. Personally, I wasn't taught that way, and I don't teach it until Level 2 along with the other symbols, so I can't really comment other than to say that the most commonly drawn way is shownhere, along with direction arrows:
I thought it probably best not to post the actual symbol here - some might not have approved [&o]- but does that ring bells? It's counterclockwise.
It would be interesting to know how you were taught to use the CKR, if you feel it's appropriate for you to share a little of that here.
I'm sure your Reiki Master would be happy to refresh your memory - or perhaps you have the symbol in your manual? I'm assuming you got one of those.
Otherwise, I'd endorse the advice from others about learning to trust yourself, and that the feeling of wanting to cry is often an indication of a wee bit of an emotional detox happening, and all quite normal.
I hope this helps.

Just a small query here, Publisher, if I may. Am I correct in thinking you are a spiritual healer, not a Reiki one? And if so, I'm guessing that maybe spiritual healers are taught differently regarding negative energies.
There's been a lot of discussion in the Reiki forum about this, and whether or not there is need for protection, but I've never seen any suggestion or recommendation about needing to take on negative energies to help others. Quite the contrary, in fact, even though some say they always protect themselves, and others say this is not necessary.
So when you say " - you won't do this yet - " to perfectcusp, I want to say "I hope you won't do this EVER!" Sorry if that appears rude to you Publisher, it's not my intention, but I can't take this on board as a way of using Reiki. Not as it stands anyway, or unless I have misunderstood.

I dont mind sharing. My master does private sessions. She has been talking to me about the symbol and said I can use it when i want more power and that it helps to get the energy going. yes the graphic does ring a bell. I think its info overload thats why i forgot which direction to do it in. She also told me to try what she calls the hara breath..not sure how that is spelled. she said when you want more power, put your toungue b ehind your teeth and after 20 seconds, let your toungue down and that should blast the energy more. i tried that several times on my friend last night since i wasnt feeling much. I feel like theres so much to learn about this. It really is about gaining confidence and trusting..

Thanks for sharing, perfectcusp. Info overload can so easily happen - in all areas. Take it easy on yourself and give yourself plenty of time to absorb new energies and experiences, and self-treat daily as well. That's very important to keep the energy flowing. The more you use it, the more it will come through.
Would it help you to remember how to draw the CKR if you sit and copy it a few times from the link I gave above? To familiarise yourself? Saying it - silently or aloud - while you do so? Draw from left to right, then down, then left to right again to begin the spiral of three circles.
You'll soon get the hang of it, I'm sure, and then you can do all sorts of things with it, like stirring it into your porridge or cup of tea, to empower yourself through your food. I've cut pastry into strips to decorate an apple pie with it - but only for Reiki guests! ;):D

Hiya & welcome,
firstly i would like to say a big hi to ya & welcome to the site. I am so pleased you have found reiki-its such a lovely energy that i am so pleased to be part of.
What i will advise is you take really small steps-if your only just R1 then u really need to get loads of practice on yourself & sensing the energy before giving full treatments to peeps!- I did my R1 on the 1st feb-so am really new to it myself- my R1 was a major turning point for me & a fab experiecne-but it has taken me some time to develop my reiki & to notice feelings in my hands-they arenow very senstive to the energy-
Keep practising & working on yourself-

Hi Holistic,
I am a spiritual healer, and we do have to take on the negative, as well as positive energies. As in every aspect of life, there is a positive and a negative; the ancient wisdoms of Asia will tell you that. Many people, especially in the Holistic field, learn their skills and may never want to tread the higher levels of their teachings. If you wanted to reach the highest levels of Reiki, you might need to study meditation for many years to perfect your skills, but for most people, they are happy to practice their trade ad infinitum and THAT is wonderful. But when you heal, there are many occassions when you need to 'take on' the fears that plague your patient. The channels of spiritual healing do this, and some even do rescue work, where they help 'trapped' souls to pass into the World of Spirit. There is much more to healing than thelaying-on of hands :D
There are levels of healing that many people will never know about, and all I want to do is to alert those people who may want to go to the next level
In love and light

Couple of things...

-do you give yourself regular treatments? this is important.
-I've been taught CKR in reverse! ie clockwise, starting top right
-hara breathing: going to use chinese terminology so i don't confuse myself. the hara or dan tien is a point 3 finger-widths below the navel. hara breathing would mean drawing in breath so that the hara/dan tien moves outwards as if you are filling your abdomen with air (the chest does not expand). touching the tongue to the roof of the mouth completes the flow of chi (ki) through the major vessels (conception vessel (round the front) and governing vessel (round the back)). there are two gaps that chi cannot flow - the mouth and the anus. hence when doing energy work you touch the tongue to the roof of the mouth and gently tighten the anus. given this info, I have no idea what your master was refering to when she described bursts of energy. if anything, it sounds like this energy comes from the person giving the treatment, ie ki, rather than being universal energy, ie reiki.

anyone care to shed light on hara breathing?

im sorry i keep getting things wrong. i sound incompetent but its really a bad memory. yes hara breathing is from the stomach and i want to say she called the toungue to the roof of the mouth one "hui yin" but i cant spell it.

Hi perfectcusp,
You did spell hui yin correctly, see you know more than you give yourself credit for!! Don't beat yourself up for not remembering things instantly, I still have problems lol!
