Question:
I've heard about people making their own beauty products (moisturisers, cleansers, body lotions etc) but how do you do it? I like the idea of making my own products so I know exactly what I'm putting on my body but I haven't a clue how it's done.
Hi,
I wasn't sure how-to start either so I found a flyer on the bulletin board at our local metaphysics store for a class called "Herbalism 101."
The hands-on approach really helped me. After that, I went back and bought about one ounce each of a dozen dried herbs and then the same amount of canning jars to store them. Cost me $35, now I have a small start of an herbal apothecary.
We made a few things in class but now I plan to make some recipes this weekend, looking forward to it. Maybe, I’ll share my creations here after I play with them to tell you how it went.
I have lots of books that will help. You can find some books that show procedures step-by-step with illustrations or photos to help you through. I’m sure there are recordings that exist also. I have found a lot of information just surfing the web.
Good Luck

I make all my own skin care products, body lotions, soap, shampoo, conditioner....etc.
It's not really difficult but it's time consuming and quite expensive for the outlay of the materials and the pots etc. But if you're really passionate about it it's so worth it. People will love them too - my mum won't use anything that I didn't make and over the last few years her friends have asked for things / gift sets etc.
Just research research research. Google skin care recipes (makeyourcosmetics as someone already said, is brilliant) and you'll find loads! And feel free to pm me if you want any info on preservatives or ingredients etc, if I can help I will.
I'm working towards certifying some of my products for retail this year - fingers crossed!!
www.aromantic.com is a good place to start, for recipies, materials and indeed training courses.

Yes, I forgot them. I did a course with them a few years back, it was excellent.
