Question:
Hi I wondered if you could shed some light on a question I have. I am a Reiki MAster myself and was attuned to the traditional symbol. My sister, who is also a RM was attuned to this also by a different master, but was also attuned to a non traditional tibetan symbol. Can we use this symbol as Masters or do we need to be attuned to it?

That depends whether you have trustful loyalty to Dr Usui or your own human will, the fact that you are asking the question; highlights that your heart of conscience/soul is asking you to consider your decision before making it. My RM, taught us that there was NO room for creative change to what had been taught about the attunement process specifically; and in keeping with the Reiki principles I honour my teacher, his teachings and Dr Usui. Although he did encourage us to be creative with the healing process and how we choose to teach Reiki.

I would say no, you don't need to be attuned to it. You have access to all the frequencies of Reiki energies as it is, so focusing in on one which you haven't been seperately "attuned" to will still produce the same results in my opinion.
Try it for yourself, draw the symbol above you, meditate on it, bringing the energy down into your crown & through your body & see what it feels like.
As yoursister is a RM too, couldn't she carry out the attunement process for that symbol on you for you? That way you don't need to worry about if it'll *work* or not.

Are you going to be teaching Reiki or have you already passed attunements?
If you have, then you may know that it is not the RM who attunes others but it is Reiki itself working energetically through the RM. Therefore if you have the master symbol and the master attunements and are ready to attune others then you need no other special symbols.
The intent is enough. Everything else works by the divine gift of Reiki. This is why an attunement always works precisely because it is not us or the "separate self" which does it.
I believe that if we are not ready as RM's then there is no one around to attune. To put it another way..When the teacher is ready..the student appears. This old saying works both ways. :-)
