Reflexology & depression
Question:

hi there all you clever people - what are the direct & indirect points to work to help / alleviate depression?

Hi Indigogal
According to Laura Norman's Reflexology Handbook, you'd work direct; Solar plex/diaphragm, chest/lung, shoulder/arm, neck, heart, thyroid and helper, parathryoid all toes with emphasis on pituitary, brain, pancreas, adrenals,; indirect; chest/lung, thymus, shoulder/arm neck/throat.
hope this helps. She doesn't give her reasons and I'm not clever enough to give you definite reasons why you'd work the points. She covers all the endocrine system so I'd say she's taking the approach that you'd be looking to balance out hormone levels etc.
It's a start anyway.

Hi, are you treating a client or is it for an assignment.
The areas I would concentrate on are the brain and spine for the nervous system, endocrines for hormone balance, Solar plexus and adrenals etc, . But I would vary with the kind of problem the client has. I incorporate quite a bit of 'relaxology' ie soothing massage and stroking for stressed clients and work fairly slowly. If someone is tired and depressed perhaps a little more stimulation.
Although not really part of our specific training, clients often need someone to talk to and its hard not to offer advice sometimes, but it can help them a great deal to have a friendly non judgemental ear. If you feel uncomfortable with that, tell them to close their eyes and rest, also use the brain to L5 link, very soothing.
