EFT on my Dog
Question:

Hi - I started a thread on the Pet forum about separation anxiety as one of my dogs has got it bad! This led to a discussion on EFT which I've literally just started researching (asa result of reading some of the threads on here actually). And now I'm having a go on my dog Giz - probably not the easiest of clients to start off with I know!
Anyway, Angie suggested I started a thread on this forum in case any of you more experienced EFTers could give me some advice, if you don't mind?
I'm having problems with sorting my statements out - as obviously I'm assuming that a lot of Giz's present behaviour relates to his past experiences which I only have a little info about (he's a rescue dog). He has 3 areas of concern:
1.He was abused as a pup. (as well as the information I got through the foster organisation, I've picked up a bit psychically and its not nice at all).
2. He's been in and outof kennels and foster homes for the 2 years before coming to us. Rejected by a lot of potential owners because he isa large dog (St Bernard/Smooth Collie).
3. He's now having problems with his "sister" (another rescue dog we got a year ago), whereby she has become more and more dominant with him - and as she has done so, he has reverted back to his original anxious self. Initially they were great friends - and now (in human terms) she treats him like dirt!
I'm used to giving him Reiki - and so used this as a starting point. Sat with him and "listened" as I usually do, however, this time with the intention that I was listening for EFT statements. I got clearly that he felt abandoned, so I started with:
Even though I was abandoned before, I am now happy, healthy and loved.
- but this quickly escalated to - I am not loved, I am not happy, I am frightened, I am confused - and on and on. I don't really know how to prioritised these statements. Should I just continue as they arise or try and put some sort of framework on them? I'm also not sure how to scale them - at the moment, I'm hearing so much anxiety and panic from him that everything's a 10. And try as I might, I cannot get him calm enough to find out whether any of the rounds of tapping are bringing the rating down.
I should add at this point, I've read through the manual I downloaded from Gary's site a few times but have not yet been able to get the videos/dvds (not a great cash-flow at the moment!).
Also, I used a toy dog as a surrogate at first (as I use distance Reiki a lot, I'm quite used to working in this way) but Giz wasn't having any of this and practically lay on top of me until I started to tap directly on him. He loves it!!! And even tolerates his paws being tapped for a while - however, I have no clue whether a dog's meridians are in the same place as a humans? So I could be tapping anywhere. How important is it to get the right spots? Is it like Reiki, where the energy will go where it is needed eventually? Or is it important I don't rely on intuition and find the right points?
Oh so many questions..... sorry guys :(
I continue to treat him with Reiki as I have over the last 2 years, but although it calms him and often sends him to sleep, I haven't felt it has improved his anxiety particularly, in fact in a way, it has made him more reliant on me, which in turn makes his anxiety worse when I go out.
It's now got to a point where he whines, paces and salivates excessively all the time and if he is let outside he immediately throws himself at the door until he's allowed back in (cutting his nose in the process). We leave him in a heated garage when we are out (though we dare not leave him for long) (he was chewing stuff inside the house) with his sister but she is now picking on him dreadfully especially when he starts his whining. There's been no biting yet - but a bit of nipping and a lot of gro

Hi Sue,
what a brilliant idea of using EFT on Giz! I use Reiki all the time on my cat so know that works for him. It sounds like you have a wonderful gift in understanding you pet's thoughts and fears which can only be of great benefit to him ( and you).
I can't help you with the meridian centres on dogs I'm afraid but if he is allowing you to tap him directly then maybe intuitivley you are working in the right areas?
I look forward to seeing what more experienced EFTer's have to say!
Good luck.

stert ff with the following
say i am GIZ
then do the statements on your selfwith the intention that you are treating GIZ... you tap on your self for each statement and keep going until you have done enought for the day
once you have finished you say i am sue
this is just one way of treating pets.

I did the same with my dog who was anxious when fireworks went off.
I stated: I am Wellington (my dogs name) and even though I am terrified of all these loud bangs, I deeply and completely accept myself cos I am the bestest dog in the whole world who wants to protect my family.
Then tapped rounds as normal and reverted back to being Steve at the end.
Conclusion: Welly is fine now. I was very impressed with EFT with him. By the way, I was stroking him at the time I was tapping.

Hi Sue

To begin with I would follow the advice of Dez and Steve they are EFT experts.

You are so lucky that you can hear their problems, I wish I knew what was troubling my dog. It may be hard woek but at least you know what to work on.

I would work through the statements in the order they come up.
Even though I am not loved etc Even though I am not happy etc

I would also say that for me it it is important to say the things exactly how they are thought of. For example if my sister has a headache she always calls it 'brainache', so for her to state:
Even though I have brainache etc would probably work far better than stating:
Even though I have a headache etc

Work on whatever comes up as you get it. I am often tapping for one thing and something seemingly unrelated may pop into my head, so I tap on it! There has to be a reason that thought came to you at that time.

Fot the moment I would not worry about the score, when I cured my dog's fear of fireworks I had no idea if her fear had gone down as I cannot communicate with her like you do with Giz but it still worked. Perhaps you should also work on the other dog and find out why she is being nasty to the other dog and tap on it.
Join the club! Since I have separated from my husband and can't work ATM due to my allegies, I have the same problem, I would love to have all of the Gary Craig DVDs. I am saving up to get the first one, I should be able to get it in about three months as long as I have no disasters during that time. Although it is really good to get the downloadable starter manual for free and the newsletter is good as well. Unfortunately my local library only has 2 EFT books and one of those is missing from the system.
Your questions are bound to help others too, I am sure there are lots of people trying EFT on their pets as a result of your question who had not thought of it before.
Let us know how you are getting on.

Hi guys
Thanks so much for all your replies - there's good stuff here to get my teeth into.
I'm not sure how I feel exactly about being a surrogate for Giz - I feel slightly uncomfortable with the idea of taking on his energy in that way. Is it possible simply to visualise the tapping? or else tap him gently in one place (he loved me tapping his chest for example)?
I've been searching online for pet centred EFT examples and haven't come up with anything very specific regarding methods - just reports of people using it on their pets to good effect. I'm obviously missing some information somewhere - maybe that will come more clear when I finally get the videos. Did find an interesting site though that talked about pets internalising their owners hopes and fears - maybe we've been trying too hard to get the two dogs to gell - and that in itself if causing issues? Looks like I'll be tapping myself too about "even though we want Giz and Lucy to be the best of friends, we accept and love them anyway".
Now - this is whereI get confused - should the end of the statement be about them or us? ie "we accept and love them" or "we accept and love ourselves"? I must admit I can't quite get my head around the formulations of the statements - because they appear to be reinforcing the negative in some ways - because that is the first focus of the sentence. The positive affirmation comes last. And when you do the reminder phrase bit as you tap - do you tap saying the positive or the negative bit? I'm pretty sure you repeat the negative statement - which again doesn't seem to make sense if you're trying to be positive. I think I'm missing something here ... Even though I'm missing a crucial bit to understanding EFT, I completely etc etc !!!;) I will go back to the manual and reread again.
Thanks a bunch for your replies anyway - if anyone thinks of any other ways I can work with Giz (and Lucy) I'd appreciate it, but regardless I'll try some of your suggestions and get back to you with an update.
Angie - what appears to be wrong with you dog? What have you tried? If you'd like me to see if I can pick up anything for you pm me and we can discuss. I've not done any distance "diagnosis" if you like before - just distance healing - so I might need a picture to tune in - I'd be willing to give it a try.
Darren - woof!
Lots of love :D

Hiya
You state the negative as that is what you are unblocking.
When starting, you tap on the karate chop point to sort through any psychological reversals that may be present. So stating, "even though I am negative, I deeply and completely accept myself," will work on stuff that can be getting in the way.
Then you tap on the points saying the negative because that taps the negative away.
I know it sounds strange and I agree that I had a hard time with it at first, but when the negatives melt away, it suddenly seems to all fit just right, and the world looks rosier.
Your comment on not wanting to take on your dogs energy: The energy goes straight through you. So no need to worry. If however it is worrying you, then tap for your worry, "even though I am worried about taking on Giz's energy, I deeply and completely accept myself".
Hugs

Hi Sue

I certainly had no ill effects from treating my dog with EFT the way Steve & Dez mention and have never heard of anyone who has. It might be an idea to search the Gary Craig site for 'Borrowing Benefits' and have a read and you will see that rather than doing yourself harm, you are in fact helping yourself at the same time that you are treating Giz.

I will pm you about my dog problems, I think she really wants a dog of her own, which is out of the question ATM.
