Earnings from Reiki
Question:

Hi all, I am just trying to find out what people feel about earnings from Reiki.:)
I would love to practise Reiki full time but can Reiki alone sustain as full time ?
Would I need to offer something else such as Indian Head Massage ?
At the moment I only have a desire / pull to give Reiki and not for learning anything else but I dont know if that would be enough.
How many full time Reiki practicioners are there out there ?
How many clients do you tend to average a day ?
Thanks in anticpation of many replies;)xxL&Lxx

Hi, surprised you haven't had any replies to this one yet! Anyway, I think the question is a bit of a 'how long is a bit of string' question. You might be able to earn a living doing reiki alone, but I think it would take quite some time to build up a decent client list.
You could do as I did, I started with my first couple of therapies and worked part time building up a clientlist and using the money to pay for other training. Doing it that way meant that at least I didn't have to worry about paying the bills as the 'day job' wage was still coming in. Hard work but worth it in the long run.
Why not try this approach and offer treatments just on a part time basis and see how you go.
Good luck

Believe me, it does take quite a while to build up a decent client base, so I would advise you to keep at least a prt time job for paying the bills while you do this.
I am lucky as my partner is working and I am concentrating on the Reiki business, but not everyone has such a great partner!
It can take a while but just keep going and slowly but surely you will build up a client base. I don't know if you teach, but if and when you decide to teach this brings another opportunity to earn more.
Hope this helps.

Yay! Replies! I was beginning to think there was something wrong with my question:(
Thank you both so much ((((hugs)))))
I was thinking that I would start from home (my lounge) I already have a couch & covers etc and
I have a full time 9-5 job so my thoughts were that I start by offering evenings only and maybe if anyone really needs it I can add a slot on Sunday or Saturday. I was also thinking along the lines mentioned of building it up and using it to maybe pay for me to learn another therapy to compliment but thats a little way off for now.
How long do you normally find it takes for one new client - ie. form filling, treatment, time to come round after before heading home etc?
I'm not sure I could manage more than 1 a night to begin and maybe review the situation if things look good, I could downgrade to a part time job if it looks promising.
I suppose a lot of it will be whatever will be but its good to hear how others have found their path so thanks x:D

it is wise to have a second income whilst building a practice, however 1 day a week is going to take a long time to build to a level where you could cut down you other job hours.
new intakes form filling elaxng geting to now your clients needs etc, i would allow an hour for new clients if you are working form home, more if you can afford the time.
the hardest thing is getting the clients, the rest falls into place once you get thins going.
i personally would not just do reiki for a living, it can be done, especially if you have no overheads like renting a room.
you can read replies here all day but at the end of the day you will need to do flyers poster and pu them in new age shops, cafe's, health shops, do local health fayres etc to get your name out there

Thanks Dez Sellars :D
I know its not going to be easy and I know that I cant ever tell how things will go for me but I figure that the more I can hear about how other peoples experiences have been the more I will learn.
Thanks all so much for input and anyone else out there who can share more experiences please do xx

I generally allow 90 minutes for each client, to allow for form filling and give them time to come round afterwards etc. You sound like you've got your head screwed on. It may take quite a while to get a customer base if you can only manage one night a week, but I think it's important to do what's right for you and your situation at any given moment.
The best advice I can give is to keep treating as many family members and friends as possible. Tell everyone you know what you are doing. Put up adverts in health food shops and other places where you think your potential clients may go, this is a cheap and effective way of reaching your potential clients. You will soon find that family and friends are recommending you to others and you are gaining more client's this way.
I think it would be better for business if offered another therapy as well (says she who only does Reiki!) but as I don't have esperience of this, I can only speculate.
Best of Luck
