Question:
Hi all im currently studying a BSc in Sport Therapy, i was wondering if any one has qualified down this route and what job opportunities or benefits have a-rose from this route. I was also wondering what people thoughts are on the bill being put forward about state registery, from what i am being told at university (not sure how true it is) that state registery will give Sport Therapy more professionalism and will push the need for a degree to be able to practice, like i said not sure how true any of this is but if there are any aspects of it that are how would this affect the people on the board ??
Hi Shaun,
I hope you are enjoying your course.
It is true that the statutory regulation of sports therapy will give the industry more professionalism, as it will become an allied medical profession, along the same lines as physiotherapy, chiropody and podiatry.
It is also true, that when the regulations come into force legally, which looks to be quite a number of years away, anyone wishing to TRAIN to be a sports therapist will have to do a degree. Anyone wishing to work as a sports therapist will have to be registered with the Health Professions Council.
I have a number of staff on my lecturing teamthat have gone down the degree route, who are successful, but I also have a number of staffthat have gone down the diploma route, who are just as successful, so I cant really comment on which is the best route.
Good luck with your training! :D
