Reiki - National Occupational Standards
Question:

Is anyone going to the London meeting on the 9th November in London?
I have just sent a couple of emails stressing my views.
As far as I am concerned Reiki is not an occupation but a vocation, I have asked occupational standards whether they intend to inflict the same standards on the pastors of the pentecostal church?
If there are going to be any regulations then they need to apply for all healers without exception. I noticed from the website below that the RWG has not submitted anything for discussion yet.
I can see this is going to be an interesting one on how they plan to tell GOD and the divine energies that guide us what to do?
Big smiles

Dear Colleague,
You have been sent this email as you may have a specific interest in any of the above disciplines, or have access to practitioners or education and training providers of these disciplines, and who may wish to contribute to this development work and provide feedback. Please forward this email to relevant contacts/members.
Skills for Health is the Sector Skills Council for Health within the UK and is the Government approved Standards Setting Body for Health Sector professions.
Skills for Health works with Professional and Regulatory Bodies to develop competency frameworks and Professional Standards of Competence (also known as National Occupational Standards) that are recognised by government office and Education and Training institutions, and have a positive role in defining the Profession and good practice within it. As detailed descriptions of good practice (in outcome terms), they include performance criteria and scope of practice (ie what must be demonstrated and in what context), and the knowledge requirements to underpin good practice. Integral to this work is the development of Assessment Guidance and Qualification Structures.
National Occupational Standards are supported by Government Departments in the four UK countries as having a key role in professional regulation and within qualification and accreditation regimes.
Development Process:
These Draft Standards were developed by drawing on the expertise of representative groups of Practitioners (which also includes representation from educational establishments). The nominated groups represented the various ways the individual disciplines are practiced and provide a UK wide perspective).
Draft Standards
Work on the standards has resulted in Draft National Occupational Standards, along with related Assessment Guidance, and Qualification Structures, which are now ready to be consulted on, feedback from which will assist in further refining and improving the standards, following which they will be finalised and made available for use.
Feedback Guidelines
You are invited you to download (and comment on) the draft standards from the Skills for Health website www.skillsforhealth.org.uk , and we welcome any feedback you wish to make. Further specific guidance on feedback is on the website.

Hi
I fear as the locations they have decided to hold their meetings do not make it possible for many Reiki practioners to attend. Is there any other way we can express our thoughts and be sure they will be included?

Answers:

Yes Somerset Angel
Email, email, email the more we send the more they will get the message that we are not just going to sit back and be dictated to by a minority of the reiki community or NOS.
You can email Tom above.
I have just sent out a copy of my email to the Reiki people that I have on my database, if you would like a copy to see what I have written please PM or email me.
United we stand divided we fall!

Ok have checked the RRWK website and it appears from the minutes in June that only two people from the RRWK are going to attend these meetings and that the RRWK are not going to prepare core curriculum until after these meetings. So I think a few loud voices could certainly be heard by all attending.
http://www.reikiregulation.org.uk/
The RRWK are keen to get a list of all people involved in Reiki. Big smiles interesting isn't it here we are with a huge Reiki community that they represent and they don't even know how big it is!
What people don't seem to realise is that the reason most of us have not joined any of them is that we don't agree with any of them.

dear all
I am seriously considering joining this organisation. Keith Harmon who used to come to this forum is Chairman of it. I can't imagine why he did not mention this 18 months ago when all this started about Reiki.
Their new website www.energytherapists.com http://www.energytherapists.com states the Association is open to all energy workers and that includes Reiki practitioners. Sorry can't post anymore on this otherwise it could be deemed as advertising! !!!

Hi Kim
I think you will find that the true url is http://energytherapists.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/ not many members at the mo but then it might not need many to achieve his goals ;-)

Der Paul C
Well the original link was given to me by Keith but the link you gave works just as well so thank you the more the merrier. Well dependng on its principles if all the Reiki people who are not currently registered joined, that would make quite a powerful voice.
Dear Paul
Great!
you know there must be 100's of thousands of Reiki people in the UK, I estimate at the very least 500,000 people that is a lot of people to represent and the RWG is not representative of the total community.

well the Reiki Working Group are asking for comments but if you really want NOS to hear about it best you book into the workshops in your area and have your say.
This is what Tom from Skills of Health had to say when I asked him healers in churches.
One is a complementary therapy, one isnt
One charges specifically for healing services, one doesnt
One trains/attunes others to heal, one doesnt
This work will help to define what a reiki practitioner does and will help
to clarify what skills, knowledge and personal qualities are required of
practitioners.
So guys and gals have you got the personal qualities they require?
That is the question.
Big smiles
Now seriously we really have to ACT on this one with a united voice.
