IHM for past cancer sufferer?
Question:

Hi,
I have recently added IHM to my therapies and wanted a bit of advice regarding a potential client. This lady has previously had bowel cancer but has been given the 'all clear'. Not sure how long ago this was but at least a year and possibly much longer.
I told her daughter that I would be happy to treat her mother and she bought her a gift voucher. I wasn't planning on getting GP consent as she is no longer a cancer sufferer, it wasn't a "blood cancer", and unless anything else arises at the consultation then as far as I am aware she has no other contra-indications.
I posted the same question on the FHT forum and I had one reply from "FHT admin" stating that *you should always get GP approval before treating". So now I am questioning weather I should be getting GP approval if a client had a contra-indication in the past but it is now resolved?
I realise we should err on the side of caution but where do we draw the line?
Any thoughts gratfully received.
Thanks

Just finished my course. We were told you only get a GP letter if there is a contra indication. So, in theory you would not need one for this lady. However, I also volunteer at a hospice and there we get a GP letter even for people who are in remission. I think this might be the safe way to go - it should be quick to get the letter and you will not have to worry about it if for some strange reason the lady gets a re-action.
I think you should rather be safe than sorry.

Some places now train you so that for things such as major illness or operations there is a time limit, I am not sure but it may be 3 or 5 years, check with your insurance company. Personally I would treat her. You can always ask her to sign a disclaimer if you didnt want to follow the gp confirmation route.

hey, :)
To tell you the truth, when working in a salon it is always best to get consent. Of course the therapy wouldn't induce the cancer again but if there were any "problems" there is always the GP's signature approving this treatment.
