I just wanted to ask what health and safety aspects you had to take into consideration when you decided to give massages in your front room?
If you can do it, I don't see why I cant, no harm in trying anyway!
Could you also tell me, do you use those smelly candles or just normal ones? And do you use music?

well i do it at home, yes i do use 'normal'candles, but i do use a jos stick, to make the room 'smellie' nice!
and i defo use music, its all part of 'setting' the scene, and making the cleint feel relaxed, which is important.
Firstly insurance - public liability, household insurance etc. Make sure they are sorted out. The Public Liability usually comes with your professional insurance.
Other things to think about in the house, access - is it easily accessible. Is it safe - check for loose bricks / slaps etc onany steps. I always clean away all the dead leaves and rubbish that collect there. Then check the room. Also think security - yours, your clients and your property. If you share the house with anyone make sure they know they are not to disturb you ... at all. Even put a lock on the door (but make sure can be opened from both sides in case of emergency, which could even be a child visiting one day that isn't a client playing and locking themselves in the room). Most of it is all common sense stuff. Make sure no valuables / sentimental stuff left on view - you don't want it stolen while the client is alone in the room. Also nothing personal, and never keep client records in the practice room. They must be locked away somewhere else.
As for candles, I generally use Ikea Church Candles and Tea Lights - cheap, and look nice.
Music for me is an essential part of my massage treatments, I usually go to my three fave CD's, 100000 Angels, Through These Eyes (both by Bliss) or the the 2nd Malmaison (as in the hotel chain) CD.
