osteopathy treatment: always 30 minutes?
Question:

hi,
i went to an osteoptah twice and felt really great after.
but i feel the 1st treatment was not one as he only did the consultation (questions) and drew me standing up...
the second treatment, he did some treatment, but for about 15 minutes as the rest was talking....in total: about 3 movements!
is this normal?
thanks,
Fadette.

Hi Fadette,
The Osteopath I work with has appointments that last 40 mins. He will spend a good part of that session hands on (even the 1st appnt). It will depend though because his patients pay for his expertise rather than a set amount of time. If he thinks talking to them about core stability and posture is most appropriate then he will spend less time manipulating & doing soft tissue work and more time talking.

I think it depends on who it is, when I went I had an hour slot, and half was hands on (or thereabouts) and the other part was using the machines and discussing what things I could do to help myself and maintain my health.
When I've seen the physio, the first took a little under an hour and the second was much shorter, probably about 30 or 40 minutes, but I had the same benefit from both.. he wouldn't let me leave the appointment though until I was aligned correctly and he'd been able to offer his advice for maintenance.

One I used to go to had 60-minute appointments I think. Or at least 50. Mind you' she'd bring other things in too like flower remedies, so she did more than just the adjustments. Those were maybe 25-30 minutes as I best recall.

Hi,
As an osteopath myself, the appointment times can vary quite a bit among different osteopaths. I think the average is usually about 45 minutes for a first appt, including case history taking, and 30 minutes for follow-ups. This includes examination and asking how you responded to the first treatment, etc.
I know one osteopath who only uses 20 min slots, including case history, but if it's a complicated case, he may not do treatment on the first appt.
