Question:
Ok I've done my Reiki 1 3 weeks ago and LOVE Reiki I feel so positive and at peace after it nut what I want to know is how long does everyone keep their hands in each position for as I have read varying reports from 30secs to 3 mins and also what do you think of when you are doing Reiki do you solely concentrate on energies or let your mind wander. Next I find that when I have reiki done on me or do it on other people (or get crystal healing done) I get a crackle in my ears in problem ares anyone else get this? I did Reiki on my hubby the other day and got a strong sense of his father who has passed away standing by him and sending so much love so is this sort of thing common. Sorry loads of questions I know :)
Hi there and well done for doing your Reiki 1. You must feel great!
The hand position thing is discipline-specific, ie according to what your kind of Reiki from all the 142 variations, says. Usually, this is 3-5 mins per position, but there are few hard and fast rules. Many Reiki healers put their hands where it feels right and stay like that until it feels right to move on.
The ear thing is great to hear (pardon the pun), as so far I'm the only one I know who admits to a whooshy sound when giving/receiving Reiki. It's really amazing, isn't it? Mine is usually whooshy all the time, and I feel a bad tingle if something's wrong.
The father thing is really very nice :-) You'll get a lot of stuff like that, just go with it and let the Reiki do its work.
Enjoy the enrgy :) :) :)
Hooray a fellow ear person:DYep same here in its whooshy but crackles on bad spots. So nice to know I'm not alone. I do feel so good after my Reiki 1 its the best experience ever. I got told 3-5mins for hands but have read such conflicting stuff I did wonder I generally go by my crackling now and once it stops I move on!!

Ideally you should leave your hands in position until the energy stops flowing or you get a sense that you need to move your hands.
When you are doing Reiki, you should concentrate on the energy flowing into you and out of your hands. By doing this youare ensuring that you are using external Reiki energy rather than your own life-force energy (Ki). Also by concentrating on the healin gyou are using your intention to add to the healing effect of the Reiki energy.
You are actually hearing energy, which is a wonderful gift to have. When you are working on a problem area, the Reiki energy is flowing more strongly, that is why you can hear the energy in those places. As you self-heal and develop, this gift will develop also. Some people have such highly developed senses that they can hear the differences between energies.
Hi Omega1So you only treat with the Rei part of Reiki, I do sometimes wonder how the early practitioners understood it to be a combination of both, as above so below :-)
Hi Paul,
No. I use external universal energy at the frequency needed to heal the conditionI am treating rather than MY life-force energy.
I was using the term Ki in the context of life-force energy, like Chi or Prana or Ti that flows through and surroundsevery living thing rather then the literal translation of energy. When one heals one should not be using one's own energy, if one does, then one is not practicing Usui Reiki. Simple really.......
Thanks for that it really helped. I did my Reiki 2 today and as well as my crackling I could really visualise like golden light energies.
Thats really good, it shows you can sense the energy you are channeling by sound and sight. These gifts will develop as you work with the energy. You are very much a natural with energy work and healing. You'll very likely develop your intuitive ability also as you self-heal. I get thesense that Reiki is an importantpart of your life and self-healing is an essential part of your path.
